That's what happens when the debate prior to the '98 draft was over Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf. Bill Polian knew Manning was a winner when Peyton told him "Look, I'd like to play here for you, but, if you don't draft me, everytime you play against me I am going to kick your ass."
Polian said he knew Peyton was a winner after that comment and there was no doubt who they would draft.
The weird thing with that debate is that not only did Peyton Manning play at a major school and excel against SEC defenses, he was also really good for his entire college career. Ryan Leaf played at Washington State, went up against PAC 10 defenses, and IIRC was ok his junior year but broke out his senior year.
To me, Manning was the better and safer choice.
