Thrashers GM Don Waddell has been involved in trade talks with Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke regarding the fourth-overall pick in tomorrow's draft, the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.
"We're certainly going to look at the trade market, but we've had no serious offers," Waddell told the paper. "We have talked to everyone. [Burke] has a better chance of getting to No.1 if he already has the [No.]4."
Burke has stated publicly that he wants to obtain top prospect John Tavares, but sources tell TFP the Leafs are also very high on Matt Duchene and Brayden Schenn.
According to the Globe and Mail, the Los Angeles Kings are expected to select Schenn fifth-overall, while Duchene might go at the No. 3 spot.
Burke admitted he isn't close to acquiring the pick, but he's still very much involved in trade talks.
"I will tell you quite candidly that I haven't gotten anywhere on this," Burke told the paper. "But I don't get discouraged easily and in hockey terms it's still early.
"We will keep throwing some things at other teams and we have further meetings scheduled for [last night]."
Meanwhile, the Thrashers are also believed to be shopping goalie Kari Lehtonen in an attempt to acquire a top-six forward.
