Apparently football is now like LARP/LAIRE in that when you are bested, you must stop immediately and concede death. If you are a DL and you get knocked over near the QB, you simply bid your offensive counterpart good morrow and look forward to the next duel.

I don't mind penalties on all the helmet to helmet stuff but teams hardly recover onside kicks as it is and they made it tougher.

I can kinda see the kickoff wedge thing because returns should come from sound blocking, not 3 three guys holding hands & clotheslining people.

If you kick a "bullet" at them like he said, then they could move and let it fly back behind them and then block while someone else gets it.

That's not even the best way to get an onside kick. The best way to recover an onside kick, if you can do it correctly, is to just kick a bullet at a defensive player. It'll just bounce right off of him and you can grab it. I've seen the Bucs and one other team, I can't remember, do it. And they were both successful. As for the grabbing QBs from the ground. It does seem ridicouls. What type of leauge is this, when you're on the ground and you can't do anything. That'd be like saying if you're a WR and you fall, even if a defensive player doesn't touch you, you're down. What happens if you have to dive for the ball? What happens if you have to dive around a tackle to try and get the QB, and you land an inch away?

What if everyone just gets out of the way and the ball goes out of bounds? Or what if the guy in the front just moves out of the way and the guy behind him simply grabs it? What then?

Sounds like a pretty ineffective way to recover an onside kick.

Two text book examples of how to break up a pass with a hit as a DB , and how to downfield block as a WR.

NFL took a really terrible turn a few years ago and its headed downhill fast. They will not stop until everyone is paying 500$ a year to see the 18-20 game regular season in which no star player is at an injury risk.

Its F'n impossible to play defense or block without helmet to helmet contact. You cant play football with helmetless contact. Yet NFL is determined to try.


Spend all these extra bajillions on Helmet research and force player not to skimp on padding and equipment. Im sick and tired of seeing guys wearing no hip/thigh pads , linebackers wearing fuckin DB pads and players still wearing older style helmets then NFL making rule changes to compensate for the injuries that occur.

NFL is sooooo concerned about player safety and health they sell Videos highlighting such hits and refuse to give veteran players a proper medical/retirement package. Amazing.

I thought the Brady hit was pretty clean but after looking at both videos Bernard Pollard kinda lunged towards Brady while the Steelers player kinda fell on him. I thought both plays were clean. Also Roger Goodell wasnt commisioner at the time of Palmers injury. I believe he became commish the summer after.

No on NFLTA the coaches were all in the meeting where they were voting on this shit. All the coaches voted for it but 1. Im told Mike Tomlin was the only person against it but i could be wrong. Wade Phillips made a speech about how it should be brung in

Blind-side blocks are a bitch though. Hated them in MS/HS Football. Anyways, I think the lineman not being able to take the QB down while on the ground isn't to big of an issue. All the lineman can really do is go for the legs, and theres an instant injury right there.

Lol yeah , his speech was mainly about how it needs to be the same for defensive players and not just offensive players. So if blindside hitting isint allowed on Offensive players then it shouldnt be allowed on Defensive players either.

You obviously never played real football lol. You are instructed to move out of the way if the ball is coming too fast for you to catch cleanly, Any player who doesn't do that and lets the ball bounce off of them and loses possession is likely going to get benched immediately, or even worse cut for being the dumb ass who blew the game.

To ensure that this doesn't happen to their career, I'd like to think every player would move out of the way of an onside kick if it's kicked too hard.

As for the ball hitting them anyway, you are an idiot if you think a human being can't move their quick twitch muscles in the time it takes a kicked football to travel ten yards. Footballs aren't that fast bro, if you can't avoid one from 10 yards away I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah, the game had already been weighed down by excessive rules...this just adds a few more things refs can mess up and Phil Simms can mis-explain on TV. I'm with you on all this 'helmet-to-helmet' stuff...its basically impossible for a DB not to have a helmet-to-helmet hit on the WR. At some point, their helmets are going to touch. You can't dodge your head out of the way at the last minute (unless you have a neck like Merton Hanks).
