Asante Samuel and DRC are both too small and too bad at tackling to either be a viable option at S. Then even in nickel packages I'd say you have to put Nnamdi Asomugha at nickel because he's much more physical than those two. I suppose they could use a 4-2-5 defense as their base like some college teams. Then they could take a linebacker off the field which is obviously widely believed to be their weakness defensively. Now I think it's pretty obvious they won't move to a 4-2-5. But neither would be a viable option at FS imo. I think it'd be best to trade him and open up money for DeSean. If they do that then they have two future draft picks from trades this off-season alone.

IMO, they gotta keep Samuel for the season. He is gonna get a lot of INTs with those other corners. Giving him up for a 3rd or 4th round pick in a season where they're clearly going for the Super Bowl is stupid ... and DeSean has to report or he gives up a year of free agency.

The issue is that their linebackers aren't very good. So what are they going to do in the division games going up against Witten, Cooley and Boss? Or, they will more than likely meet the Falcons or Packers in the playoffs, so what do they do against Gonzalez or Finley?

I think they have to trade Samuel to get a draft pick in return, and then use the money that is now free to give to Jackson and bring in a linebacker (I threw out Lofa Tatupu earlier.)

Thats the point of the 4-2-5. You bring a LB off who is not very good and you have Nnamdi in the nickel ready to cover any TE out their.

Btw, Boss and Gonzalez aren't really intimidating receiving threats. If they burn you, you really do suck.

The New York Daily News confirms free agent Jason Snelling is "doubtful" to sign with the Giants after Ahmad Bradshaw was brought back.
The Snelling dog and pony show Monday helped push Bradshaw into signing, so it served its purpose. ESPN's John Clayton suspects the Dolphins will turn to Ronnie Brown as Daniel Thomas' backup, which would leave the Rams as the favorite to sign Snelling.

Kyle Orton is now taking all of the first-team quarterback reps at Broncos training camp.
The Denver Post is calling the Broncos' backup job a Tim Tebow versus Brady Quinn battle. If the Broncos still plan to trade Orton, they're wasting valuable starters' reps on the overpriced incumbent. Denver needs to make a quick decision on whether to move on from Orton or keep him in the lineup. He's taking up valuable cap space and time for Tebow to form a rapport with Brandon Lloyd.

Not to be outdone by Julio Jones, Bengals first-rounder A.J. Green is drawing raves early in training camp.
"He catches everything," writes Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson, "No one's covered him, and when he is, he jumps up and takes it away." Coach Marvin Lewis is already calling Green an "upgrade" on Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens. "He showed his physical prowess out there today," said Lewis while shaking his head. Safety Chris Crocker, a 110-game veteran, already has Green in the "upper echelon" of receivers.
