We shall see, but I'm willing to bet we can still have many small improvements to gameplay, presentation, and commentary while they work on revamping RTG.

Hey everyone, Ben Haumiller here and we’ve reached one of my favorite points of the year, Dynasty time. This week you will see a lot of news coming out about our new improvements to Dynasty, but before that gets started I wanted to talk a little about what we added, why we added the features we did, and answer a few of the questions I’ve seen come up so far. Let’s get into the features:

Coaching Carousel (full blog posted on 5/24)

This was without a doubt the most requested feature heading into this year (the only thing that was even close was custom playbooks ), so when we started development on NCAA Football 12 our #1 priority was the Coaching Carousel.

We will have a full blog that goes into all of the details on Tuesday, but until then let me throw out a few bullets to outline the feature and also answer a few of the questions out there:

- If coaching contracts aren’t your thing and you want to play Dynasty like you could in the past you can turn off coach contracts at Dynasty Setup.

- You can create your own coach from scratch, or assume the life of an existing coach.

- Full Coach editing (both Head coaches and coordinators) is available in the front end under Team Management. The coaches are saved to the active roster file, so if you upload/download an edited roster file you will also upload/download any edits to coaches that are on that file.

- In an offline dynasty you are on your own to determine your starting job, but in an Online Dynasty the commissioner can force everyone to climb their way up the coaching ladder by restricting which jobs are available when joining the dynasty (i.e. everyone starts as a 1-star Coordinator, start as a 3-star Head Coach or lower, etc.).

- The Coaching Carousel is different than “Coach Mode”; the Carousel is basically your career as a coach in Dynasty mode. Coach Mode is a new control type that allows you to call plays and make pre-play adjustments, but not actually control the players on the field. This is all done from new broadcast view cameras.

- As a coordinator, you will only control your side of the ball during the game. So, if you are the Defensive Coordinator you can either SuperSim the offensive plays or watch the CPU play them out (which can be pretty intense if you are watching your CPU controlled offense try to work down the field for a game winning score in the final seconds and there’s nothing you can do to help.)

There’s so much more I could go into, but I’ll save the rest for the full blown blog. Here’s one more look at the Coaching Carousel in action.

Custom Playbooks (full blog posted on 5/25)

While not technically a Dynasty feature, since you can use it in other modes, Custom Playbooks sort of feels like a Dynasty feature since all of your coaches out there are going to want to run your own offense through your coaching career.

There have been a lot of details already released on this one. I’ll let the full blog on Wednesday fill out all of the rest of the info.

Web Improvements (full blog posted on 5/25)

The overall goal of the Dynasty website is to allow you the ability to always stay connected to your Online Dynasty, as well as give you the ability to participate in your Online Dynasty no matter where you are. Moving Dynasty to the web has been a tremendous technical challenge, but as you’ve noted over the past few years, we are committed to providing fans the opportunity to access Dyansty anywhere, anytime. All fans will have the ability to experience the following features from any Internet-connected computer:

· Recruiting – complete all of your weekly recruiting tasks from the web

· Dynasty Wire – Tell everyone your side of the story by writing your game recap, or create your own story from scratch and include videos and photos from any game played in your online dynasty

· Comment on any Dynasty Wire story

· Sign up for Email alerts for dynasty events (Game Recaps, Weekly updates, notifications that the dynasty is ready to advance, etc.)

· Set your Auto Pilot status

· View rosters for any team

· View schedules for any team and any week

· View box scores for other member’s games that have been played in the current week

· View the top 25 poll

· View player and team stats

· Download roster, top 25 poll, and team/player stat information to your local pc

· View other dynasties in progress (Dynasty Wire, Top 25, Stats, Standings, etc.)

For fans looking for the ability to complete their games vs. the CPU without having to go to the console, the advanced Super Sim will allow you to play out the game as the coach—making substitutions and calling plays—helping to determine the outcome of the game rather than just letting the CPU sim the game on its own. There is a one-time fee of $2.99 or 240 Microsoft points for this feature. A free seven day trial begins upon your first use of this feature, so you’ll have a week to try it out before purchasing.

Speaking of CPU simming, the next feature to talk about will give the commissioner the ability to advance the week from the web. This is a great addition for everyone in an Online Dynasty because now you are not at the mercy of the commish being home when it’s time to advance the week. This was a major undertaking for us to get the sim logic up on the server so that when the commish moves the Dynasty forward, all of those CPU vs. CPU games will get simmed and all of the stats/records/etc. will get merged into the main dynasty file. While it’s just a single button press for the commish to start the action, there’s a ton of under the hood work that goes into place to advance that week. There is a one-time fee of $2.99 or 240 Microsoft points for this feature.

Custom Conferences (full blog posted on 5/26)

This time last year it seemed as though we were moments away from college football being flipped upside down with the dawning of the Super Conferences. Even though only a handful of moves actually happened it became obvious that we needed to implement a system that allowed gamers the flexibility to not only set things up how they want, but also be able to adapt to what the future might bring. So, if you want to see how a world of four 16-school Super Conferences would have played out, or if you want to move TCU to the Big East in year two of your Dynasty and do it by the book, it’s all up to you.

Just like Coaching Carousel, we will do a full blog going into the details on Custom Conferences on Thursday, but for now here are some quick bullets:

- You can make edits to conference members, conference rules, and BCS bowl tie-ins when creating the Dynasty as well as each off-season of the Dynasty. This will allow you to make future changes based on real world movements, or any other changes you want to make.

- Conferences can have as few as four schools and a max of 16 schools; however independents can have as few as one member and a max of 32 schools.

- The full blog will go into scheduling details and how we made sure that specific games were scheduled on the correct dates even though the size of the conference can change, as well as making sure that certain rivalry games try to continue to be scheduled even if the schools are moved to separate conferences.

To close out on Custom Conferences, I know there are plenty of fans that are going to want to recreate the old Southwest Conference, so here you go:

Dynasty Tuning (full blog posted on 5/27)

Finally, it’s not all about new additions for Dynasty. There are also a number of elements that received some nice tuning updates. Friday’s blog will go into all of those tuning improvements out soon, as well.

Well that’s all from me for now. I hope everyone is as excited about these new features as we are. We will be back soon to give a deep dive into each of these features. Stay Tuned.

Road to Glory info that was in Game Informer but quickly taken off.

Lastly, as promised, here is the full list of Road to Glory details that were originally in the Game Informer story:

This year's [Road to Glory] mode is designed by former Auburn running back Alex Howell. He says his aim is to "create as much of my high school and college experience that I could through Road to Glory."

High School

* Explores your high school years more in depth, so you'll play a full senior season and gain recruiting points that are based on your stats.
* After each game you'll pick three local schools of varying prestige that are interested in you
* Your recruiting board shows which schools you've picked and how far you are to earning a scholarship for each one. You can walk on to any school, but if you have a scholarship, you'll be able to transfer your recruiting points into XP for college
* You'll play and be recruited on both sides of the ball
* You can edit your HS senior season from seven to eleven games, and can import online browser-built Team Builder teams as your opponents. This lets you recreate your real-life high school team's schedule if you want

College

Coach's Trust

* You work your way up the depth chart by earning Coach's Trust Points, and even when you have enough points to catch the player who's higher than you on the chart, you can then only take that position by winning a Position Battle – which is a glorified practice session
* Non-starters will earn Trust Points through practices and occasions when you see the field during mop-up time, etc.
* Coach Trust Points extend to your on-the-field power. QBs won't be able to call audibles or hot routes until they have earned the coach's trust
* Earn enough points and you can have the chance to call plays from "Extra Plays" – an extended selection of plays than what the coach has already called. This is available in varying frequency during a game the more Trust Points you earn
* The development team is also working on improving the AI play calling

XP and the Upgrade Store

* XP you earn during your college career is spent on item packs in the Upgrade Store. These packs are built around groups of attributes for specific types of players. For example, the scat back pack boosts your acceleration and juke ability
* There are 600 item packs total, and they'll be six different ones available each week. Rarity, cost, and duration vary, but they will all be based around your position
* Upgrade Store items cannot be bought via micro-transactions

Misc.

* Calendar system scrapped, and the Road to Glory presentation is similar to the Dynasty Mode's menus
* The mode's menus, replays, montages, etc. will be centered around your player
* Practices are now 25 reps per practice
* Can save all your Road to Glory replays onto your NCAA browser page
* No more study sessions on your calendar
from MM member Chase @ OS.com

edit: Additional info about OD.

Online Dynasty Mode

* Commish can advance the week from the web – but only if you pay a one-time fee of $2.99 or 240 Microsoft Points
* You can super-sim your games versus the CPU on the web -- including calling plays, modifying your depth chart, and more. You can also pause the game at any time, sim forward a quarter, etc. Again, however, this will cost you a one-time fee of $2.99 or 240 Microsoft Points.
* Both of the above browser features can be bought in one Commissioner Pack for $6.99/560 MP, and the pack also includes the ability to be commish to up to five dynasties.

NCAA Football 12: Hands on with the Coaching Carousel

http://traditionsportsonline.com/ea-...tails-revealed

Ever since we first had our taste of what a coaching carousel can be, we’ve been clamoring for it’s inclusion in EA SPORTS NCAA Football 2012. In my opinion, no other sport is so singularly impacted by a single man. The coach is the heart of any NCAA program and can turn a small program into a contender or drive a historical program into the ground. That’s why I’m excited to bring you the news on how the coaching carousel will be implemented in this year’s title.

First of all, be assured there is some depth to the process and tangible impacts on the teams being coached. This isn’t just rotating names and meaningless movement. There are Offensive Coordinators and Defense Coordinators (no position coaches) to go along with the Head Coach and the coach prestige has a direct impact on the progression of players for the length of time he coaches the team. It’s not as deep as it could be, but for the first implementation, it’s more than I expected.

At the beginning of a Dynasty (this all applies to online as well) you will be able to create your coach using a few screens and several options. It’s not the most robust create a character interface but enough to provide a little variety and I’m sure the amount of options will increase in the future. You can select your body type, specify some clothing and facial features.. just basic stuff. One interesting option is a choice of Alma Mater. This is where you basically define what your dream job would be. Are you a USC alumni or a Michigan man? Your selection here will play a small role when your prestige improves a bit and your specified school is on the hunt for a new coach. The fact that you favor them will bold well for you when competing for that job. In an Online Dynasty, the commish can setup restrictions and force the members into certain type of setup. (ex: every coach has to start out as a 1* coordinator etc..)

After creating a new coach you then begin to look at what initial job you are going to want to start your career with. There is no “closed” or “legacy” mode that requires you to start at a low level position and work your way up, but their are job expectations for each individual position and they are progressively more difficult to meet as you move up the team prestige charts. You want the to be the top dog at Alabama? You better meet the booster’s lofty expectations quickly because you won’t be given much rope with a low prestige rating. If you start at a lower tier school, the goals are more reasonable and it’s easier to stay off the proverbial hot seat. If you decide to start as a Head Coach you do not get to hire coordinators, they are just assigned to you.

Once you have decided what position you are interested in you will be presented a contract screen that will detail out the expectation the each school has for potential coaching candidates. The importance and impact of each goal is displayed by red or green errors. The quantity of arrows signifies the level of importance and the colors dictate whether their are positive, negative, or potentially either, ramifications for the achievement or failure of each individual goal. There is also a job security bar graph that shows you where you stand as you take over the program.

You also have the ability to designate yourself as an offensive or defensive coordinator at a school and take the reigns on one side of the ball to really put your individual stamp on the style of play for your school. The type of goals in the contract screen will reflect your selection and you will only be able to control your side during games though, so make sure you have the mentality to accept that role and give up control to the head coach and other coordinator when your squad is on the sidelines. Users can change what side of the ball they can coach during a dynasty in order to keep the experience as flexible as possible. I understand keeping it open for that reason, but i expect some leagues to implement house rules restricting coaches to one side of the ball for the duration of their careers.

At the end of each dynasty season there will be a coaching carousel session to participate in. Before it starts your will get to review your goals and how you measured up to expectations during the year. You will either bet retained, get fired or you will be given the option to renew your contract if you are in your final year before you view the positions that are opening up. There are a ton of different goal scenarios. Some are single season based and some are measured and tracked throughout your tenure at that specific school. If it’s a career goal and you fail to accomplish it during one season, you have failed that goal for the entirety of your employment at the school.

If offered a contract renewal you can accept and then just watch the carousel unfold or you can decline for the moment and test the market. If you decide to participate in the carousel you can watch as the CPU teams work through filling their positions, hiring and firing their coaches, and watch how it dynamically affects the jobs that become available to you and other coaches in the market. You will know what teams have you on their radar when your name appears in the top three candidates window. The specific order in that window can be random, so even if you appear to be third on their list, you could be their first choice. That’s a nice touch.

You will also be able to look at where coaches have gone and what unexpected jobs might be opening up that your were not necessarily rumored to be a candidate for as you follow along the carousel selection process. You can also skip ahead during the process to the first team that is offering you a position. If it’s your current team and you pass on the extension at that point, your current school could go in a different direction leaving you searching for a new gig. Don’t worry though, no matter how low your prestige rating falls, as a user you will always have at least one job offer allowing you to continue in the dynasty.

The best thing about this coaching carousel is that the coach prestige rating will fluctuate based on the coach’s performance throughout the dynasty and that rating has a direct impact on the progression rate of the players on the specific team he coaches. This is critical in creating a dynamic environment in which teams will progress and regress based on the decisions they make when hiring a new coach. This makes every dynasty you ever participate in different and unique in it’s own way.

Well, there’s a quick breakdown of the new coaching carousel. I believe it to be a solid addition for the first year of implementation and it sets the groundwork for a more in depth, realistic dynasty experience this year and to grow with in further game titles down the road.

**Dude that wrote this article really needs to use grammar and spell check. It was almost painful to read this.

Since coaches don't actually have ratings it looks like the success of the coaching carousel will come down to how well the sliders work (the run/pass ration and aggressive/conservative sliders) and how distinct each teams playbook is.

Last year I don't think the game did a good job with this and you could only really tell differences between coaches if they used rare playbooks. Example: It was easy to tell the difference between an option run team and a air raid team, but a lot of the other schools blended together. Hopefully this year there'll be an actual noticeable difference playing against a Nick Saban vs a Eastern Mich (both schools used one back playbooks in '11). If the coaches and playbooks blend together again it really won't matter if cpu coaches switch places.

If you went in and adjusted each team's coaching philosophy in dynasty according to settings on OS, teams that have similar playbooks began to play more distinctively.

Pain in the ass, I know, but it really worked to make the game more realistic.

Also, I'm glad coaches are a part of the roster file, so they can be shared easily.

^Didn't work in OD's last year.

I didn't play offline dynasties and won't this year unless they made a lot of changes to things like cpu's playcalling AI.

^^^ Thats the best thing I heard. At least now Ill have an idea on why they progress/dont.

Holy Shit! When did EA get to making changes to their games? With all the good looking additions to this and Madden, this is looking to be a terrific year for football gaming
