Can anyone explain what Jimmy Rollins was thinking last night in the 8th inning trying to go to 2nd on a 10 hopper with Burrell running to 1st? He could have rolled the ball to 1B and still would have got Burrell out.

They probably would have lost anyway, but a one run game in the 9th sure as hell is better than a 6 run game.

I love J-Roll but he needs to be benched for tonight's game and bat no higher than 6th for the near future. It's pathetic he's gonna make the all-star team while batting .210

That was certainly boneheaded, but walks and rinky-dink little blooper hits are what killed us in the end. Mostly the walks though. Romero has been inconsistent as hell this season (story of the pitching staff in general). He's either filthy, or can't hit the strike zone to save his life. I can't believe that game ended 7-1. Blanton isn't great, but he has looked pretty good lately. Still, he can't seem to buy a win.

Word is both Royals and Mariners scouts have been coming to Phillies minor league games. Names that have been thrown out there are Gil Meche, Brian Banister, Erik Bedard, and Jarrod Washburn.

None of those names excite me, but if we don't have to overpay, I'd take Meche.

OK, now that interleague play is finally over, and played our worst ball of the year, the Mets have only gained 1.5 games on us. That is unbelievable.

We have Lidge back, we'll be getting Eyre back soon. Rollins will be coming back Tuesday and Ibanez later this week, let's go back to kicking ass and increase our lead in this division.

They are historically bad in June under Manuel, that's why this was no real surprise. After this road series vs. ATL, we have a nice home stand before the All Star break where we can really help ourselves out in the standings.

The other teams had their chance, and couldn't really capitalize. Let's make them pay for that. I'd like to see a 5 or 6 game lead by the All-Star break.

Bedard is the best one out of that group and would really add a good arm to this rotation. 5-2 record with a 2.47 and hasn't allowed over 3 runs in a game all year. The only thing bad about Bedard is we would have to give up a lot to get him. I think it would probably be easier to get Meche or Bannister but neither really excite me, I do agree with you though, I'd take Meche if we get get him for cheap.

The thing I don't like about Bedard is he not a good clubhouse guy, according to players/coaches. He's a real bitch with the media, and that would be a big problem here.

I read somewhere that Sam Perlozzo suggested we don't trade for him because of his attitude problems. I think Gillick said something similar. We don't need that stuff in the clubhouse. I'd also like to look at his home/road splits since he has the benefit of playing in Safeco Field.

Also, wasn't he sidelined for a little bit with shoulder stiffness? I'd hate to give up some good prospects for a half season of Bedard who could be a walking injury/clubhouse problem.

Meche might have worse stats this year, but his numbers were pretty respectable the last few years.

Man, that was exactly what we needed. Kick the Mets while they're down. Hopefully they finish this home stand out strong and head into the AS break with a nice lead in the division. Friggin Florida is being a pain in the ass again.

Rollins looks to be turning the corner, and if he can continue, our offense will be sick once Ibanez gets back.

Speaking of Ibanez, he's playing for Reading tomorrow, so that's good to see. Hopefully we'll have him back this week.

I expect no worse than 5-2 vs. Reds/Pirates, let's hope they keep it going.

11:18am: MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports that the Phillies will scout Pedro in the Dominican Republic today or tomorrow.

9:21am: Andy Martino of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Phillies will scout Pedro Martinez in the near future to see if he can contribute to their injury-depleted rotation. Last week, Jon Heyman reported that the Phils had discussed Pedro, and they now have renewed interest.

However, there's been no suggestion that Pedro will accept an offer worth less than $5MM prorated. The Phillies have more payroll flexibility than most teams, but that doesn't mean they'll use it to sign the Cooperstown-bound right-hander.

We need to dominate the rest of this home stand before the All Star break and try and build our lead. The first series vs. Florida after the break will be huge, and hopefully we have a 3 or 4 game lead going into it.

Scott Lauber of the News-Journal says the Blue Jays already have a scout at the Phillies game tonight. It's also reported that the Blue Jays have interest in Jason Donald.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but it's still exciting to see. I don't expect Toronto to trade Halladay, but if he were to come here -- WOW.

One source told Ed Price of MLB Fanhouse that "the Phillies are leaders at this point" in the Roy Halladay sweepstakes. However, that doesn't mean the Jays ace will be dealt. As another source points out, J.P. Ricciardi is not in a hurry to trade Halladay, so there's an equal chance he stays in Toronto.

And the haul Halladay could bring? The Erik Bedard trade (Adam Jones, George Sherrill and others) and the Dan Haren trade (Carlos Gonzalez, Brett Anderson and others) could be benchmarks.

Jon Heyman of SI.com heard from an executive who believes the Jays would hesitate to deal Halladay within their own division. Does that make the Phillies favorites?

The executives who spoke with Joel Sherman of the New York Post believe the Phillies are the frontrunners for Halladay. The Phillies want to win now and they think Halladay's ground ball-based approach would thrive in their homer-friendly park.
