Packers will release Al Harris Monday

The Packers spent 2 years developing him. I'll go ahead and go out on a limb and say he would be playing AT LEAST as well as Green, who is one of the more unsung contributors on this team since arriving.

Not sure about him playing better than green. Haven't seen it in KC so far this year. And a healthy Harrell would be better than a healthy Torbio.

Not sure why you would cut the better player (Harrell over Torbio) or where you get that Torbio > Green. Anything at all to back this up with?

In hindsight, I would MUCH rather have had Toribio on the roster over Quinn Johnson, who contributes next to nothing to this team.. Ditto Pat Lee.

When Harrell was healthy, which wasn't often, he played pretty well. Including the beginning of this year. Look at torbio's stats in KC and in GB. Nothing.

Aaron, I don't go out looking for reasons to bash TT like some others do. I think reasonable is a much better approach.

At this point it really has become fans who tolerate or like Thompson vs. those who don't. Theres a minority in the middle. The funny thing is, in general, it's really the same fight as Packer fans vs. BF Fans.

Most people who backed the Packers would now be considered your Thompsonites and those who backed Favre, your non-Thompsonites. Even if they no longer care about Favre, they were so scorned by the situation that they loath him.

The people in between (which is where I would place myself personally) don't necessarily care for TT, but don't blame him for everything nor deny any of his mistakes or faults.



Also, Aaron FWIW, Ron Wolf was hired in 92 and we didn't win a SB until 96 in his 5th year. This is Thompsons 5th year. Did you hate Ron Wolf those first 4 years before winning the Superbowl? Like I said, I'm not a TT supporter these days but he's an easy target (which he has brought upon himself with his demeanor and some of his moves). People take everything out on him whether deserved or not.

I know a lot of people that still wouldn't. MrBill would be one example. I have a couple friends who remain 100# Favre supporters and actually cheer for the Vikings against the Pack. The shitty thing is, I guarantee 100% they would participate in the enjoyment of winning the Superbowl if it happened. They'd be the first to point out how big of Packer fans they are.

I'm still pro TT. Sure there's things he does at times that don't make much sense to me but the good moves and draft picks he makes far outweigh the bad.

I should have phrased it better maybe. I think its alright to be pissed at the front office and still be a fan of your team. Hell I can relate to that. That was essentially majority of the Mike Sherman era for me.

The problem arises for me with people that claim to be deeply rooted fans, yet actively cheer for their team to get dismantled by a rival because they a) love a rival player and/or b) hate our front office that much. In my mind, if you are a Packers fan, you don't cheer for the Vikings ever unless maybe they are playing the Bears and we need the Bears to lose. And there is pretty much no earthly reason to ever be cheering for them against the team you are such a deeply rooted fan of. Just my opinion. I loathed Sherman, probably close to on par with how much some hate Thompson, but come gameday, I was/am a Packers fan and I want my team to win.

Bill I've always seen you as a Favre fan first and foremost. That doesn't mean you aren't a Packers fan. Just that your being a Favre fan runs deeper than your being a Packers fan.

I gotta say though, Harris played a good amount today, sprinkled in at nickel, dime, covering Moss.....he played damn good. As in.....he could start as a nickel if he can truly perform at the level he did today. He had a great tackle on big 'ol Amard Hall on a flat route on 3rd down.

I think thompson has built a solid foundation for the team, and I think any discrepencies in terms of record are a result of Favre being a once in a lifetime quarterback. I'm still waiting for that game where I say to my screen: "Come on Aaron, this is a big play, we really need the momentum back, you need to score here and be clutch". it hasnt come yet. his stats are great, but I haven't seen him rise to the big occasions yet. But Green Bay had Favre.

As much as I loathe Favre now, he was a top 5 all-time quarterback. 96 will always be important to me, it was what solidified me as a fan of the sport while living in a shitty place for sports (LA ; no football team, lakers were inbetween Magic and Kobe, and loldodgers and angels). Favre is one of the best ever. I hate on him now cuz he wears a Vikings helmet, and I think thats the duty of any true blood Packer fan. Shit, on the franchise my Dad, Uncle and I play on Madden, I asked my dad to play the Vikings just so I didnt feel bad for beating up on him. But you cant use the same watermark he set on every future QB ; it reminds me of a sig i saw on MM. "He is not the next Patrick Roy, he is the first David Aebischer". far as i know Colorado gave up on that goalie, but the point is, you can't compare the two. and you cant compare the stats back then to the stats now.

I respect Thompsons decision and I want to puke everytime Favre leaks some shit through Ed Werder or tries to draw attention to playing through his "injuries", and I loved him in a green bay uniform. but that was 14 fucking years ago. Just because the best sex I ever had came 3 girlfriends ago, doesnt mean im any less committed to my next one. Thanks for the good times, but it's over now, so fuck you, we're better off without you. Everytim that dude is in the press im sure people in Green Bay are like, "yep, thats what we DONT miss."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not as clearcut as Thompson vs. Favre. it was a fucked up situation, and it seems like everyone is getting what they wanted/deserve.

I'm not sure that it was all about money. This is an uncapped year and the Packers have already paid more than half of Harris' $2.5M salary because players on the PUP list get their full salary minus bonuses, just like IR. The Packers are paying Nick Collins $10.9M this year, I think they could have found another $1.25M to keep Harris around for the playoff run.

Getting rid of Sharper was stupid, I never understood that. 5 years later he is still going to pro bowls and winning rings.
