I'm fine with that, but you will have guys like FedEx crying about it when somebody like Ball St or Hawaii sneaks in.

Because, you know, those teams have no right to compete for some reason.

I'm a fan of the 6 BCS legue winners, plus the two best at large. Any unbeaten mid major is guarunteed a spot ahead of any non league winner. More than two unbeatens you go to SOS for the tiebreaker. This at least guaruntees you will get the 3 or 4 best teams in the field,probably the top 5 or 6 realistically. Some years, you would have no non BCS teams, which would please the FedEx crowd.

I dont agree with the FirstTimer opinion of "of you cant come up with a good playoff, then no playoff at all". A shaky playoff is the lesser of the evils. Juat about any playoff idea with 12 or less teams is better than the BCS.

I said you're Ball State and you probably shouldn't be going to Ball State with hopes of winning a National Championship especially when your OOC schedule has Northeastern and Western Kentucky. I have no problems with a non-BCS team going in, provided they can find their way into the top 4 or if they do a conference championship playoff. I just don't like the idea that if you're undefeated no matter what the schedule or the conference that you should automatically be thrust into the National Championship discussion.

Yeah and I think 4 teams might to few. Imagine a 4 team playoff with Boise, Hawaii, and say a MAC team that hits a hot streak one year. You'd probably throw a team like Ohio State or Alabama after that. If it ever gets done it'll be 6 or 8 teams.

I understand that Ball St played nobody, but they deserve the opportunity to get stomped in a playoff. It sounded as if you were implying otherwise.

I just don't think the non cartel leagues should be ok to slap around in a non conf schedule, but then excluded when one breaks through and has success. Finally Boise is getting some due, but cmon. How many unbeaten seasons do you need?

My gripe, is no team should end a season unbeaten and not be called a champion. Its absurd. If unbeaten isn't good enough, they shouldn't pretend these leagues are playing the same game. D1should be cartel only if that's the case.

Which is a retarded idea IMO, because your keeping the biggest flaw in the current bowl system in play: The home field advantage that southern/Pac-10 schools have.

Tickets may be split, but when you have (for example) OSU playing LSU in New Orleans, Iowa playing Florida in Tampa, Penn State playing USC in Los Angeles there's a problem IMO. One team is travleing hundreds or even thousands of miles while the other team can spend the night in their dorms for christ sake and wake up and walk to the stadium if they wanted to.

Keep the bowls for the teams that don't make the playoffs, but seed the teams and play the games at the higher seeded team's venue until the championship game, and play that on a neutral site (ala FCS, D2, D3, the NFL).

Shit man if you want to start giving playoff home games to the higher seeded teams, you won't find any objections from LSU fans. I think the rest of college football may have a problem with having to come to Death Valley though. :smug: The Super Dome is smaller than Tiger Stadium, so we'd actually have even more of a crowd advantage in a real home game.

Idk. I think they should give the teams home games by seeding, like with NFL playoffs... And then do the championship at one of the traditional bowl sites... Let it rotate like it does with the BCS. Then they can use the other BCS bowls as runner-up games for the playoff losers.

They can cut the regular season down to 10 games to make this seem less ridiculous.

EDIT: Fuck that last idea. Cut it down to eight games. The ten-team conferences use five-team divisions and the twelve-team conferences use six-team divisions. During the regular season, you play round-robin against the teams in your division, two teams from the other division (rotating each year), then one "challenge"/"invitational" games like they do in FCS (ie. MEAC-SWAC challenge) and one OOC game OR two OOC games - obviously, the teams in the invitationals are invited before the season starts and either accept or deny the invitation... The winners of the two divisions play each other and the winner of that conference championship game is the conference playoff representative.

 

For USC last year, this would mean:
4 Pac-10 division games
P10-B10 challenge or some shit (tOSU game)
2 Pac-10 intra-division games (Oregon teams)

 

(North division is made-up of Oregon teams, Wash teams, Stan... South division is made-up of SC, Cal, fUCLA, Arizona teams... Would never work in real life, but for hypotheticals' sake we're using it)

OOC game (ND)

For Bama:
5 SEC division games
ACC-SEC challenge (VT game)
2 SEC intra-division games (Tenn & UF)

It's imperfect... In fact, it's mainly fucked, I'm not at all sure how to set-up the regular season, but I think the NCAA should do a twelve-team playoff with eleven conference winners and a wild card team. I think if people want to complain about too many regular season games (because you don't want the "student"-athletes getting too worn down and playing too much), you can cut down to eight or ten games, but I'm not sure how to set up a regular season...
