Prometheus (Ridley Scott Film)

The AvP series is a mockery of both the Alien and Predator series. Each stood absolutely fine on their own respective merits until Hollywood needed some cash that week. The AvP series does not really fit into either storylines. They are just divergent action movies.

I was considering watching it through a shitty torrent. Quality is absolutely brutal though. Going to the movies right now isn't a possibility but I really want to watch this movie.

And I watched the AVP movies recently and I just watched my first alien movie and seeing as this is a prequel to alien I'm assuming the dreadlock warriors were the predators.

You've never seen the original Predator with Arnie? I.......I don't even know what to say. Go watch that shit right now.

I love that there is a discussion brewing about this. i gotta read as much as possible on this movie because i can't stop thinking about it.

 

Anyone else notice David slowly evolving, gaining human emotions? Makes what he did to Holloway seem like a bit of payback for all the putdowns/discrimination.

Also - anyone think Vickers was a robot too?

I read that Jesus was an Engineer. Never read the part about Christmas/Eve though. That's pretty slick. Does that make Holloway God? That "baby" was courtesy of his sperm/black goo and her womb, so that makes the Alien at the end, their bloodline, no?

 

I think this makes David a god more than anything, at least in a deistic sense. He sets off the chain of events that creates the Alien, everything else is just cogs in the machine. Holloway splooge + black shit + Noomi womb -> white massive face hugger fetus + "Engineer" = Alien, which is more or less described as the perfectly engineered species in later films.

I don't quite understand what happened with the tatted guy, what caused him to go all super-human zombie. The fluids in the white things is obviously not the same shit flowing through Aliens or it would have just melted his face.

Overall I thought the screenplay wasn't the best and maybe could have taken advantage of the massive scope a bit more, but overall I really enjoyed it. It didn't need to be 3D with the kind of visual style it was going for imo, but it still looked pretty great.

Fassbender and Rapace did a great job, everyone else was was pretty forgettable. Logan Marshall-Green looked a LOT like Tom Hardy.

Its all this stuff that makes it a thrilling and entertaining blockbuster sci-fi.

I think that because of a) its pedigree and expectations and b) all of the huge philosophical and symbolic nature of the whole thing it comes off as a disappointment at different levels to different people because of the huge potential it had. The pretty gaping plot holes and lack of deep characters keep it from reaching the next plateau of being considered equal amongst other classic sci-fi movies, which is too bad since I think it had the potential of reaching that in concept.

Just came back from this. Thought the movie stood up pretty well, but I'm having much more fun reading all the speculation about the symbolism and larger meaning. This shit blows my mind.

Anyway, film was great. I'm gonna need Noomi to do a nice lighthearted rom-com after all I've seen her be put through on screen.

Didn't enjoy the movie. Seems like there were too many wholes and a lot of things were left on the cutting room floor. Had potential tho but disappointed.

The plot definitely had some weaknesses, but I'm still impressed by the film-making. This was an ambitious project and Scott did well with it. Certainly not the most airtight of stories ever told, but it had plenty of memorable moments and the themes it explores are pretty thought provoking.
