- This section will deal with specific nuances of game play. Remember “sim” football is the name of the game – if you wouldn’t see it in the NFL on Sunday, don’t do it.

GENERAL GAME RULES -
1. Depth Chart Substitutions: NO player may be moved from the position he plays to different position in the depth chart, with the following exceptions:
• LBs can play any LB slot (OLB, ILB, MLB)
• DBs can play any any DB slot (LCB, RCB, SS, FS)
• Defensive linemen are interchangeable (DE,DT)
• OL can play anywhere on the OL (OT, OG, C)
• TE can play FB
• WR: Your #1 WR can only play the #1 or #2 hole. You CANNOT put your #1 WR in the #3 Slot in the depth chart.
WR LINEUPS:
Lining up your star WR as the slot or 4th WR alot of the game:
We arent able to assign players this year, so try and leave WR's where
they belong. Sure every so often you may want T.O. in the slot, but not
all game.
• KR and PR: The player at KR/PR needs an 85 KR/PR rating to return kicks.
Package formations are ok, since it’s in the game. But dont make it the base of your offense. One in awhile sure, but Randy Moss in the slot all game here isnt going to work. If you are found changing around players in your depth chart that violate these rules, you will be warned and subject to league penalties. Also if you are found using package formations to just gain an advantage over the defensive AI (i.e. Putting a WR at TE or FB) then you will be subject to league penalties. The wr @ hb sub is banned from league play***
2. Owners are not to use crude language during the game towards their opponent. This is unsportsmanlike and just plain rude.
3. Everyone in the league expects you to know the rules before playing, so if an owner happens to break one, please let them know what they did, nicely. When I play, I try to have the rules in front of me for reference. If this is possible, try to do that as well.
OFFENSIVE RULES -
1. Mercy Rule: If you are 'WINNING' by 28 points or more in the second half, you must run the ball from here on out (CPU or not). You 'CANNOT' pass the football, you must run the football 'AND' may if you choose, you MAY run the clock out.
You also, cannot go for it on 4th down, or fake FG or punts, you can kick field goals if you are close.
If you are running towards the end zone, of course score. But please don’t rub it in with deep passes, its just disrespectful and unsportsmanlike. If you break this rule, you will be removed no questions asked.
2. Running Out The Clock/Draining The Clock: Can only be done with 2:00 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and 4th quarter. Also it should never take more then 20 seconds to run your play. If your opponent is going below this pause him, address the issue.
No one wants to play a game that you just sit there and watch time go by. Once a play is picked as rule of thumb 2 consecutive plays should never go underneath 20 seconds by the time you hike the ball, it may happen every once in a while with adjustments, but this does not mean you can go below 20 seconds on 2 plays then run play normally and then run 2 more plays below 20 seconds. (This also doesn’t mean you can just keep hiking the ball with 18 seconds left, don’t manipulate these rules).
Play the game, if you want to run a ball controlled offense sustain long drives but do not purposely juice the clock because you want to gain advantage. If you are found doing this, you will be warned and subject to league penalties.
*Exception: If you are up by 28 or more points in the 2nd half (Mercy Rule) you 'MAY' run out the clock.
3. Play Calling:
Do not rely on “money plays” or use the SAME play over and over to win games. We play realistic football here, we severely restrict the manual movement of defenders. While this creates more realistic matchups, it does expose defenses to exploitation to some extent. We are not banning specific routes or limiting the number of times you can use a certain play in a game, but “mix it up”. We are relying on the owners to be responsible about this.
This goes for Defensive playcalling as well. While Offensive Money plays seem to get the headlines, it is no better for you to continually call the same defensive play all game.
Always try to mixing it up no matter what you do in this game gentlement. Stay true to that and you should have no problems in league play.
RUNNING GAME:
Mix up your run formations and run plays. Simple as that.
4. No Huddle: You can huddle whenever you want, its part of the NFL, just don’t make it the base of your offense. But once in a while it’s ok to try and catch the defense off guard.
At NO TIME may no huddle be called after a clock stoppage (out of bounds, incomplete pass, etc.). If this happens, you must take a delay of game penalty.
5. Fourth Down:
When faced with a 4th down situation, you should be kicking the majority of the time. This rewards strong defensive play. You may “go for it” on 4th down in the following situations:
• Anytime beyond the 50 yard line, 4th and 2 or less
• 4th and 1 OR 4th and inches after the 35 yard line.
4th quarter-
Losing team can go for it from anywhere on the field on 4th down. If you're winning by 10 points or more, you may only attempt a fourth down if you are passed the 50 yard line.
• If you’re winning by more than 21 points, you must punt or kick a field goal if in range of one.
unless..
•when on offense in the fourth quarter with 3 minutes or less remaining in the game and on your opponents side of the field, you may go for it on 4th down with 1 yard to go or less in an attempt to "put the game away". NOTE: if on your 49 yardline or the 50 yardline exactly, it is ok to go for it as well, in accordance to the previously mentioned scenario.
**One fake punt per game, any quarter, any down, any amount of yards, anywhere on field, but must be losing or tie in the game**
**One fake field goal per game is allowed, you must be at the 35 or closer and you cannot be ahead by any amount of points**
Again, don’t be going for every 4th down though. If we find out you don’t kick, you won’t stay here long. Don’t take advantage of our lenient rule.
6. Audibles: On offense, formation shifts may only be called once the QB is under center. There are no limits on audibles and hot routes, but keep in mind if you’re continually audibling and letting the play clock run down, you’re going to get reported for play clock draining.
You may not audible down to a play that would place a WR at the TE or RB position. If you do, you must keep them into block.
You may only change your audible button assignments at the beginning of the game or at halftime.
7. Receivers in Motion: Motion is not intended be used simply as a tool to check coverage, it is intended to be used to create favorable matchups for the offense. You can motion whoever, whenever you want, but if you’re sitting there motioning everyone back and forth, back and forth, back and forth to lose coverage. That will not be tolerated. You may snap the ball with teh reciever behind the offenisive line only if the reciever is blocking, he may not run a route if this is done.
8. Goal Line Formation: Goal Line offense or defense formations are only to be used:
• Within your own 10-yard line.
• Within your opponent’s 10-yard line.
• 3rd, or 4th and 1 or inches
9. PLAY ACTION:
People that abuse this are making it suck for the rest of the league. If you don’t have a running game established don’t even bother with the PA. Don’t use it on 3rd, 4th and longs (long is considered anything more than 6 yards). Use it in a sim way otherwise you will get a warning the first complaint and receive player suspensions for any future complaints. Owner, before filing a complaint, please pause the game and let your opponent know how you feel. BE NICE! :]
***NEVER, EVER RUN BACK TO BACK PLAY ACTIONS***
IF AN OWNER BREAKS THIS RULE IN A LEAGUE GAME HE MUST IMMEDIATLY PUNT TO HIS OPPONENT
10. DROPPING QB BACK:
You can’t intentionally drop your QB back 10+ yards just to get receivers open, or to take the ball and run. If you’re found doing this by fellow owners, you’ll be warned, then removed from the league. Also constant sprinting out and or back will not be otlerated either.
- the QB sneak may not be used unles it is 1 yard or less to go.
11. LOBBING THE BALL TO RECEIVERS:
Lobbing the ball to your receiver’s all game is unacceptable. We didn’t say you can’t lob the ball out there once in awhile, but not 80% of the game.
12. Zig Zag Rule:
You are not allowed to bomb the football then take control of your receiver, lead him to the left or right, then go up and catch the ball. Doing this makes the DB get caught out of position, and instead of following the football, the AI follows the receiver, making it an easy catch every time. Called the Zig Zag glitch.
However, people have to understand that you can manually take control of a receiver and catch a ball if you’re fighting for position with a DB, there is a difference, we are using the honor system here.
So what were saying here is, if you want to switch to the WR and go up for the ball that’s kool. But don’t be bumping the DB or zig zagging.
- rocket catching will not be tolerated.
