Well when you look compare sanctions you have to keep in mind how badly USC got punked by the NCAA.

Mark Emmert came off great last night on the Outside the Lines Special.

Rece Davis and especially Chris Fowler came off as fucking idiots.

Emmert gave a pretty good defense of why and how the penalties were handed down. The only thing he pussed out on was calling out JoePa/PSU for the compliance issue coverups with player discipline and grade issues that JoePa kept swept under the rug. Emmert also took some writers to task for calling this "the darkest day in PSU history"..He made the point that a reaction like that is kind of the entire idea behind why things got so out of control. He said(paraphrasing):"Was the day the sanctions came down a "dark day"? Sure. But it wasn't darker than the day that kids were being raped in showers, or when the actions were covered up, or when boys were being abused elsewhere...."

Fowler and Reece were seemingly trying to make the argument that every school has a "football culture issue" while kind of ignoring the fact that PSU was a really unique case because of the power JoePa had and what the culture issue lead to. They were trying to say you will never be able to change the culture at PSU and that this would open the door to the NCAA doing this type of thing every where even though this was such a rare and heinous case. Reece did kind of shut Folwer up to some extent by pointing out that guys like Petrino, Tressel, and others had been fired for moral and ethical issues and if the football culture issue were as pervasive everywhere else they'd still have jobs.

Sure the overall football culture nationwide can't be erased but that's not what the NCAA was trying to do at PSU. They weren't trying to erase football culture in general, they were trying to correct/change a football culture that had swung WAY to far out of whack. Fowler, who I usually like generally, somehow missed this point. He came off as angry and dumb. Maybe he's a big JoePa supporter.

Redshirt freshman T Ryan Nowicki is the first current Penn State player set to transfer and is reportedly considering Illinois.

Illinois is allegedly "putting the full-court press" on Nowicki, who redshirted during his first season with the Nittany Lions. He will be visited by Illinois coaches on Wednesday and some of the staff with travel to Nowicki's hometown to visit his parents. Many may consider this as the start of the domino effect, but it has been a slow process thus far.

It's a slow process so far, because it's too late in the game to jump ship for this season. It's practically August.

Depth charts have largely been set, you have to come in, learn a new system, get acclimated, etc. Not to mention, these kids have to uproot their lives and move to a new place, all within a couple of weeks before classes start. It's not a lot of time left to get a lot of things done. This isnt NCAA Football '13 where you can just plop these guys into a depth chart.

I don't expect many seniors, if any, to leave this year.. I think you will see some freshman leave now. Most of the kids who are going to move are going to play this season, and carefully plan their move for 2013.

That didn't happen when Curley, Schultz, Spanier and Paterno were removed? The culture changed on Nov 9th, 9 months before the sanctions were ever set in place.

I've heard a few former athletes agree with the sanctions while other's haven't. As far as alumni and fans....meh. Generally those groups of people aren't rational anyways.

Todd Blackledge was on Mike and Mike basically defending Paterno saying "you don't know the man". Meh. Mike and Mike did a good job of trying to explain to people that there are some people in this world that hold a person in their life to very high esteem and many PSU players, alumni and fans have spent the majority of their life thinking Paterno and thusly PSU were the epitome of intetgrity and quality. I guess for many it is still hard to grasp that the guy they put so much faith in wasn't who they thoght he was.
