Questions for EA devs on NHL '13? Post them here.

We have an interview lined up with one of the EA devs for NHL '13 this week. Please post any questions you have in this thread. We will do our best to get all of them answered!

Off the top of my head:

- Will the low rated goalies/dmen (all players) problem be addressed? Once more players start to be able to stat themselves up. IE: 2 or 3 months after the games release everyone will have a sub 80 player while the cpu goaltenders will remain at their normal low 65 or so rating.

- Is the problem where after one pass your created play is terminated problem addressed? IE: You can start you play by hitting the hot spot but after one pass everyone breaks off. This drove me insane in NHL12.

- Is the top shelf from close in goal still prevelant or are shots going to be more realistic.

- Be a gm will the high ceiling in salary cap after a few years be fixed. They do follow the cba though which I always thought they should of fixed up a bit to address the high cap problem in the later years.

- Be a gm will there be less players that become superstars. Not uncommon to have all mid 80s players after 8 or 9 years.

- Be a gm will we have the ability to see the stats (number of goals, assists ect) of the junior players from their CHL, euro league games pre and post draft. Or the ability to watch your drafted prospects progress if you don't sign them right away.

- Be a gm - Any chance at other leagues (USHL, NCAA, ECHL ect ect) to be added.

- Be a gm - Ability to resign players at any time during the season. Always waiting till the free agent period seemed unrealistic.


EASHL - Is the wait time to switch teams still active? This really hampered quite a few of us here who would play with multiple teams throughout the day.

EASHL - Are we still locked to one position throughout the whole game? Would be nice to switch from dman to forward if we had a guy drop or something.

EASHL - Are player roles (two way forward, sniper ect) all still the same?


Online Be a gm - Any idea if live drafting will take place. The offline draft idea they have in place now just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Drafting in Online Be A GM is automatic. You don't even draft...

1.)Can you elaborate the new "chop" feature? Rumor has it that it is the same button as the poke check. If that's the case then how will that be implemented? Does that mean you are only capable of using the chop with a loose puck? If so does that mean we can't poke a loose puck?

2.) Can you touch a little bit about user goalies? In the trailer it shows a segment of a user-controlled goalie and he did a desperation save that typically only a computer goalie could use. Do user goalies have new desperation saves at their arsenal? Are they manually or automatically triggered?

3.) In an interview it was said that players can't go full speed and take shots accurately, or at least not as accurate as you would if you stopped and glided. It then went on to say only players like Crosby would be able to do that. In EASHL players have Crosby-like stats. Does that mean most people in EASHL will be able to go full speed and take accurate shots?

4.) In the past games, at least in EASHL, forwards had extremely high puck control and were able to figure skate. What is in store for user defense this year with the additions of the speed burst and the new skating engine, especially now that defense can't skate backwards as fast. Will offensive d-men/2 way d-men be needed just to be able to combat the speed of these skaters?

EASHL - will there be any new uniforms,logo, or customization options ? Also is the issue with low resolution logos on customized logos fixed (if you used a NHL logo and changed the colors the logo resolution dropped signifigantly?

Correct I want to know if this has been discussed being changed because of the negative response people have had towards it. I'd hope they would at least give you the option to draft the first couple rounds or something.

In Be a GM, will schedules be more realistic in terms of home/away stretches? In '12, you'd have home games for 3 weeks at a time and then 10 road games and vice versa.

More I thought of:

Be a gm: Will players still be given out contracts based on their ratings and abilities or will this be changed to their actual stats. I had Tim Erixon last night want a 3.5mil a year contract at 22 years old and the guy has yet to play an NHL game (in my franchise) but he's 82OVR with a B potential this upcoming season.

Normal gameplay: Is stick lifting going to be toned back more? Its still wildly over used.

Normal Gameplay: Will the stick defend move be toned back as well? Saucer pass as a way to get around it rarely works.

The new backwards skating with the puck logic (which honestly looks like an old trick us vets used its just revamped a bit) appears like it can really have some glitchy always goals that plague new features. How much has this been worked on.

Online be a pro:

Has anything changed in regards to the way we gain expierence and stats this time around?

Has the goalie camera angle been improved at all? (removing the glass from behind for example)

I really can't stress enough if the goalies in Be a pro online have been improved. We've literally had whole rooms disband after games because of a bone headed ai goalie games. The solution of just have someone play goalie is really not a good one because its so difficult (camera wise and playing wise) to be a normal goalie.

I probably have more but at this point a lot of the things that really raged me in NHL 12 I've mostly forgotten at this point and all I play these days is offline be a gm.

I asked a couple buddies that still the play it every day but they couldn't really think up more then what I've already done here. It's too bad we didn't have a couple more days notice. I'm assuming they're on a crazy tight time table though.

I think he's wanting to know if we can change the length of the season or if this is an idea that might be implemented in the future.

Ravin and me used to play offline 25 game seasons all the time when they had multi team control back in 03 or 04 for the PC.

The 25 game season is basically what I was saying. They use to have that option and I wish they would bring it back. They use to have short/medium/long, which was basically 25/48/82. I just want to know because it opens up a lot of options for a GM Connected. If it is 25 games, you can play them all. If it is 82, to get through any kind of season and have a true online dynasty, you would have to sim a bunch of games.
