Worst thing to happen to the league television partners in decades. Also cultivating a generation of fans who don't care about watching games.

At minimum, it will become a straight PPV channel, but i'm guessing they simply do away with it.

I wonder if that would actually be a good thing for viewer numbers. I've got to be honest, I'll watch Redzone every Sunday, but I'm not convinced I'd watch a full game every Sunday.

I like RedZone because it lets me watch clips from other games while the one I care about most is on commercial break. It lets me see a lot of players and teams I don't get to see as often as I'd like.

That's kind of the point.

CBS & FOX were slightly down this season. That's not all because of RZ, but it's a factor as more people have access to it and it increases in popularity. So RZ is potentially effecting the network deals, on top of the obvious devaluing of the golden goose, the Sunday Ticket package.

I cant see RZ existing in its current form much longer. It will either go back to being a Sunday Ticket exclusive, become a straight PPV channel, end up having a cap on the number of live minutes of game footage it can show, or cease to exist entirely. It hurts the league more & more as it becomes more popular. They created something that is actually so good, it hurts them.

Yeah, I agree but the question is whether or not people will go back to watching regular games as we used to or think, "wtf is this shit, adverts? Fuck this I'm going to watch the NHL on NBC!" Like I say, I think I'm in the latter.

Although, I have to admit I'm not the typical viewer. Frankly, my interest in the NFL may be more about gambling than the sport itself.

I don't pay directly. It's on the main cable sports channel, which I'm always going to have because it has all the football, rugby and stuff as well as the NFL.

Doing a gut test for a Redzone price ... I feel like £10 per month would be a comfortable level; they could probably extrapolate another £2.99 out of me begrudgingly. Any more than that and I'd probably revert to the traditional NFL viewing model, but on an exceedingly casual and non-committal basis.

I have to say that I do still find the playoffs well worth watching in their entirety, so I'd stick around for them. But like I say, the regular season could be a lost cause.

DirecTV can suck it. The only reason they don't like it is because other providers have access to the channel and it helps people avoid getting gouged by DirecTV for Sunday Ticket. The NFL needs to open up Sunday Ticket to all providers at a reasonable price. They would make more money than they do now but can't bring themselves to step away from the exclusivity premiums that DirecTV pays the league. DirecTV knows the minute they lose exclusivity for Sunday Ticket, they will hemorrhage customers or have to write down revenues on the embedded base of customers to keep people that are only with them due to the Sunday Ticket package.

Never a fan of exclusivity for rights like this. It benefitted the NFL and directv for years. We're at the point where NFL can jump onto things like xbl roku apple TV etc. I'm just terrified of another exclusive deal with some other provider.
