20 million is a whole lot more then most rookies get.

He hasn't proven one thing to anyone. Why not sign what the niners are offering you and then if you play well and earn it, go for the big contract?

How does it exactly work if he does sit out til next year? How/when can other teams draft him?

The 49ers own the rights to him so he cannot work out for other teams or talk to other teams unless they trade him or release him.

I am not even sure if he will be allowed to enter the combine next year or work out for teams once he re-enters the draft because I think the 49ers still own the rights to him until he gets drafted by someone else.

Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

If you expect me to believe he wasn't into drugs at Michigan St you're the stupid one. That school is notorious for having drug problems on the team and his friend and QB Jeff Smoker was suspended for cocaine. Charles Rogers was already a borderline personality when drafted, and whether or not he was into pills in school, he was definitely a smoker and probably a coke head as well.

the comparisons to mike williams are good for the hypothetical the rogers comparisons are bad. Rogers career was a downward spiral from the time he got hurt. yes with rogers drugs were obviously a problem but the concensus from some in the local detroit media was that he got to far away from football due to the injuries and lost the desire.(unsure where you get the idea that MSU is notorious for drugs it was only during the bobby williams era) Mike williams suffered because he went a year without playing football, which is the road crabtree is veering onto.

San Fran is known to be one of the most frugal franchises in the league under their newer ownership. I dont think they cave.

Crabtree says there's two teams that are willing to pay him. The 49ers are saying that there has been no teams contacting them.

That's tampering. Especially since the 49ers aren't even allowed to trade Crabtree until after the season.

As far as I am concerned they can trade his rights at any time up until the trade deadline which isnt for another month or two.

If Crabtree and the 49ers do not reach a contract agreement by Nov. 17, he can't play for the 49ers this season. But all will not be lost for the 49ers. The club will have about seven weeks, beginning March 1, to find a trade partner. It should be no problem to trade him if there are at least two teams out there - as Sanders suggested - willing to pay Crabtree $40 million over five years.

There is a precedent for something like this. The Cardinals selected quarterback Kelly Stouffer with the No. 6 pick in 1987. Stouffer sat out the entire season. The following April, the Cardinals traded Stouffer's rights to the Seahawks for a fifth-round pick in the 1988 draft and first- and fifth-round selections in the '89 draft.

I haven't seen a specific quote from crabtree saying two teams were willing to pay him, but even if he did say that, it still could be hearsay. Unless he specifically talked to a team and they said yeah sure we'd pay you 40 mil, there isn't tampering and there is zero proof that anything like that has happened to my knowledge. Goodell had a chat on NFL.com the other day and was asked about this situation and he said there was no indication of tampering.

You can only trade the rights to a rookie 30 days before the first game of the season. That has passed. Next available window will be March up until draft day.
