Carroll takes this job likely b/c he can stay on the west coast, he'll get paid, he will have power to control personnel decisions and it's not like the division is incredibly difficult.

Besides, if USC will get sanctions, where else will he go?

I'm not worried about Carroll the coach though, it's Carroll the GM I am a bit up in the air on.

But he can't be worse than Mora/Ruskell.. that's for damn sure

Umm lets see.. one of the best stadiums in the league, the richest owner by a wide margin, one of the best training facilities in the league (The VMAC) .. in a shitty division where you could rebound quickly and make the playoffs.

I'm as hard on Phillips as any fan, but Carroll's career record doesn't even compare;

Phillips - 81-54 .597
Carroll - 33-31 .516

He's only got 1 postseason win, so it's not like he's substantially better in that department either.

Carroll's NFL claim to fame in the pros is that he preceeded Belichick in NE and Parcells in NY.

He'll be just as mediocre in Seattle where he won't be able to stockpile talent like he did in LA.

I'm interested in what Carroll will do in Seattle. Seahawks are pretty irrelevant (to me at least), so it should be fun to see how this all plays out since Carroll is such a big name.

I hope he fails, though, but something tells me, he might do quite well.

Nick Saban, Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Bobby Petrino, Pete Carroll?

We've all seen this before. A coach who wins endless games at the college level because he has a massive recruiting advantage at a football powerhouse and plays a load of games against cupcake teams tries to make it in the NFL. I'm not saying he'll fail, but I wouldn't exactly be dancing in the streets if I were a Seahawks fan.

He's a massive improvement from Jim Mora Jr though, so that's a positive.

The difference between those coaches and Carroll is that this isn't Carroll's first nfl head coaching job an he did have some success in the nfl.

33-31 in 4 seasons hardly screams successful coach to me.

I dont remember Carroll's tenure in New York (I was 2) but Carroll did get the Patriots to the playoffs two out of the three years he was there and I think that would be considered some success.

As far as name value this is a great move, but too bad this isn't college football where name value matters. Carrol was mediocre in the NFL, so it will be interesting to see if he learned anything since then. When he was in NY and with the Pats I remember people saying his skills as a coach would be perfect in college, but not so great in the NFL. I also agree with those who are saying something ugly is about to go down at SC, because this move just seems all of a sudden. Either way the team wasn't going anywhere with Mora, so the move makes sense.
