The premise of every ESPN show is garbage. The Tom Brady thing was funny, because at least he was drafted, and having 6 QBs selected ahead of you is no big deal. What about guys like Kurt Warner, John Unitas and Bart Starr? Those are the true rags-to-riches stories.

Nice recap. He won the Super Bowl with Brad Johnson. Rich Gannon was 1st team All Pro in 2000, then won the MVP immediately following Gruden's departure in 2002.

What is your point? Gruden could make journeyman QBs like Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson MVP candidates...why would he also use a first round pick on a QB? Gruden's teams were always in the playoffs...when would he have the opportunity to take a Cam Newton or a Matt Stafford?
To me, its more impressive that Gruden could make any QB good. Not just a top pick.

Agree completely. And, quarterback is the hardest position to draft at, regardless of position. The fact that he got the most out of Gannon and Johnson is impressive, because Chris Simms and Bruce Gradkowski are actually very similar to both of them early in their careers. If they had Gruden as their coach now, it would be interesting to see what happens.

Brian Griese had a career year with just 10 starts under Gruden after Simms got hurt. I wouldn't try to argue much regarding Simms and not meeting his "potential" considering I have covered and shared the drafting of Simms story multiple times! Plain and simple, Gruden never wanted Simms. Rich McKay pulled rank and took Simms against Gruden's wishes.
Funny how former players who did jack shit after leaving Tampa all bitch about Gruden. Yet guys who excelled under him and didn't leave on bad terms will tell you that Gruden was the most prepared coach they have ever played under and that he would have you ready to play by Wednesday with his offensive meetings. Oh, and they loved playing for him as well.
Guy is a premier coach who was handcuffed by the Glazers and did more with less than any coach I have seen. Plus, the guy loves the game. He doesn't fancy himself bigger than the game like many people try to depict him as. His work with CDS is no bullshit and he doesn't over-step his bounds with the program. He'll be at 7-on-7 tonight for the area schools and he'll be helping coach and won't worry two shits about what Shaun King thinks.

I was impressed with Jake Locker and Andy Dalton. Gruden really pressed on Mallett. Gruden's favorite QB prospect though isn't even in the draft. Gruden in social conversation has said that he really likes Andrew Luck.
Talk about a moe, Andrew Luck needs his head examined for going back to college. Ask Jake Locker how playing his senior year helped his draft stock. Not to mention Harbaugh is gone, too. Good luck to Andrew in 2011.
