I don't see it at all. Howard is what he is at this point. Expecting him to all-of-the-sudden find this untapped offensive potential is a bit foolish.

Shaq's offense during that period is infinitely better than anything Howard is capable of. Shaq attempted nearly twice as many shots as Howard does (While having a similar FG%), was/is a waaaaaaaay better passer than Howard and actually had a low-post game.

Howard's offensive game has improved a lot over the year. He's not just some alley-oop, Tyson Chandler type player anymore...he's getting dangerous down low.

Gasol is a good player, Dirk's skillset for his size is amazing and Dallas played much better basketball.

It amazes me how much Laker fans loved Gasol when they were winning titles, but threw him under the bus for one admittedly bad series against a superior player (Nowitzki).
The coaching staff never made the correct adjustments getting Gasol off Nowitzki on D ... and I suspect Gasol's O suffered because he was being so humiliated on D.
Lakers' fans should cut Gasol some slack. He helped you win two titles. Not a lot of other players have that on their resumes, and Gasol is the first guy to say he's not a cut your throat type player, he's a complementary guy.

I rather have cap space that trade him for Gasol. So no, nothing in this case is better than him. Take into account that nothing also nets you a trade exception.

I understand that, but the way I see it, even if Howard wanted to go to LA, and I'm the GM, I'm going to do whatever I can to make the team better, not to make Howard happy. Nothing on LA is anything I would want so if they wanted him, they would have to take some of those bad contracts too. I would also trade him to another team if that option was available, if they offered a better deal. I could care less if he wanted to go to LA

Who knows maybe the new CBA will have a franchise tag in it. It'll be interesting to see how that will work out

I'm not really sure a new CBA will change a player refusing to resign with a team. The players simply have the power and owners will have to take risk. Orlando's best chance is to use another team like the Nuggets did with New Jersey to make LA pay more than what they'd want to.

You're assuming the NBA won't demand an NFL-like franchise player designation.
The way the NBA is going, I think they pretty much have to demand it ... and a hard cap.
But, again, that's assuming the NBA wants to achieve parity like the NFL.
The way the NBA is going, teams like my Raptors have zero chance of ever winning a title. Yet, in the NFL, a little city like Green Bay can.

Melo had the option of signing in the offseason with the Knicks, he used that as leverage. Dwight will not be able to sign with LA since they don't have the cap space and won't have the cap space.

with gasol it was always been a love hate relationship

you loved it when he was agressive and being tough and hated it when he would just get pushed around on the court

no one can really defend how he did in this years playoffs though he was just an average player instead of the allstar he is

Lakers fans knew what they had with Gasol, its unfortunate how quickly they turned on him. Dirk's a very, very gifted big man.
