SRS: Which QB would you rather have?

Alex Smith or Tim Tebow.

It's funny to me how so many people are madly in love with Tebow and dislike/discredit Alex Smith even though Smith is better in every single possible category, especially WINNING.

Even with his limitations Tebow brings an excitement and intangible leadership to the team, so I take him. It's not going to be pretty and I'm going to have to build a certain type of team around him, but give me Tebow. Off the field Tebow is superior to my franchise as well.

Alex Smith is meh......BTW, does Smith come with Harbaugh as well?

What? Have you seen Tim Tebow pass? He's completing less than 50% of his passes. Why would you want him to throw more?

Obviously, the team around Smith makes him look better as does the coaching. Let's not forget how bad Smith and the 49ers were just a season or two ago. I'd like to see Tebow in that type of ball control, conservative offense with a D behind him like the Niners have. I think that would be the best system for Tebow.

If I remember hearing correctly didn't Smith go through 3 different offense coordinators in 3 years.....that could be tough on a young QB.

To be fair to Smith ever since his awful rookie season he's been average if not unspectacular. I wouldn't label him as "bad" outside of his rookie year and an injured marred 2007.

I know what Tebow is, and I suspect Smith is simply having a career year. Smith has a career full of garbo on his resume, and that's hard to ignore based on one good season.

I think Tebow can progress into something better than what he and Smith are now. Smith, well I think this is as good as he will ever be.

I'll take Tebow. In my opinion, Smith wouldn't be able to win on the Broncos, while I think that Tebow would still be succesful if he were on the 49ers. Smith's "breakout" (if you want to call it that) season is only because he is playing on a much better team. Put him on the Broncos and I think you see the Alex Smith of old, while I really think that Tebow could flourish in the 49ers system. However, this thread isn't about the coach or team around him. Either way, if I have a team and there is a schoolyard type draft, I pick Tebow over Smith any day of the week to start my team.

I see a guy that SEVERELY cripples an offensive game-plan. Most if not all completions are less than 5 yards in the three step passing game or roll-outs off of play-action. That tells me even Harbaugh doesn't have a ton of faith in him.

Just because Harbaugh is smart enough not to put Smith in bad situations like the past staffs doesn't make Smith a better quarterback. He's had four games this season with less than 200 yards passing AND 0 TD's (and he had one game with 201 yards and 0 TD's). He's thrown 3 TD's in one game all season. He has a total of 4 TD passes on the road in 7 games. His yards per pass attempt has exceed 9 yards only once.

If you look at his career stats lines, he's still the same old Alex Smith. He's just not making the critical mistake like in years past.

Having said that, Tebow does share his struggles. And as a supporter of his, he can really struggle throwing the football sometimes. I think the most important thing is consistency for a quarterback, even if he's consistently bad. I'd rather know what I was getting.

So, I'll take Smith. Build my offense around the running game and short passes/rollouts much like Harbaugh has done. It's not pretty, but I can win with it. Tebow is like a box of chocolates right now, and he does have some upside, but I need a little more consistency out of him first.

tebow's glaring lack of passing ability force it to be smith for me. at least smith doesnt take 3 days to wind up to throw it as hard as he can only to have it float 45 yards.

Tebow can't complete shit, all his balls are wobbly. Tebow does bring a sense of leadership to Denver but that leadership doesn't help him complete passes.
