Alex Smith. You saw what happens when the Broncos fall behind by too large a margin in the past couple of weeks, Tebow becomes completely one-dimensional and that element of his game he happens to be awful at.

At least Smith is capable of getting hot and completing some passes in a row. Not to mention.. Smith has had a new offense every season he's been in SF. I have a feeling if you gave him some more stability he'd actually be ok.

i watched alex smith his first 4 or 5 years in san fran... the guy is, well, just a guy. every year its a new excuse for why he isn't THE guy. he's had more chances and apologists than any QB i've ever seen.

watch this thread when SF is one and done in the playoffs. you arent winning a superbowl with alex smith. at least theres hope for something down the line with tebow, smith's proof is already in the tray full of pudding.

He's got freak athleticism, size, and speed for his position. His arm is a cannon. Harbaugh is molding him into a student of the game and he doesn't need to rush him onto the field. He gets to sit, learn the playbook, and be polished into whatever Jim Harbaugh wants him to be while Alex Smith turns in a few more serviceable seasons.

Nevada claimed a share of the WAC title after defeating Louisiana Tech.

Kaepernick is the only quarterback in the history of Division I FBS college football to have passed for over 10,000 yards and rushed for over 4,000 yards in a collegiate career. Kaepernick is also the only Division 1 FBS QB to have passed for over 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards in a single season three times in a career (consecutively).

At least Tebow still has the potential for growth. Alex Smith gives us years of proof that he's always going to be a Kyle Orton flavored milktoast QB at best.

The improvement he has shown from last year to this year makes me think that maybe he can continue improving under Harbaugh.

I'd take Smith > Tebow as a quarterback.

Just pointing that out because I know the D always comes up when Tebow talk arises. Niners D has just been crazy good this year.

I don't think anyone is crowning Alex Smith as the MVP of the 49ers, though. A casual fan turns on ESPN for two seconds and they think that the Denver Broncos are the Tebow show and he does it all "because he's a winner." Everyone realizes that Smith is a game-manager and appreciate the lack of turnovers and ability to move 20-to-20 and set-up Akers for the NFL Single-Season FG record.

Tebow can't complete shit, all his balls are wobbly. Tebow does bring a sense of leadership to Denver but that leadership doesn't help him complete passes.

If I remember hearing correctly didn't Smith go through 3 different offense coordinators in 3 years.....that could be tough on a young QB.

Actually it's been six in six years. I just heard that this morning on ESPN. Unreal.

But yeah, this isn't even close. Smith all the way. Tebow has reverted back to his "true colors" the past few weeks and I don't see him getting much better.

Tebow is a great kid, great teammate and great motivator but is sub-par on the field.

Guys like Tebow frustrate me. They could be all world if they chose to be. Why hasn't the guy worked on his mechanics and learned how to throw a pass. WR's are useless in a Tebow led offense.

I'm not saying they will, but I don't see why they couldn't. Mainly because as everyone has said, the 49ers don't have a lot to do with Alex Smith. They're doing a good job minimizing their problems and they don't beat themselves. They play good defense and run the football. That's a championship formula.

I wouldn't credit Alex Smith for a lot of it, but as long as he doesn't blow it up, it could definitely happen.
