Chiefs and Texans in offensive shootout at halftime

Analysis: It's no surprise there's a deadlock right now, both teams are playing great offensively. Defensively, not so much - although there have been some big plays broken up. The Houston passing defense seemed to have fallen asleep - in particular, Cortland Finnegan, is playing like a zombie - getting beat bad by Dwayne Bowe.

Play of the Half: Damon Huard is playing like a man possessed, he has been shooting the ball in there fairly conservatively - but when he goes long, he also finds a receiver. The play of the half was by Tony Gonzalez, who caught a 56-yard bomb - and outraced the entire Houston secondary after bringing down the catch.

Kubiak's Quote: "We aren't playing all that bad. Some play calling has been suspect, I'll admit that - but we are executing great on offense, just a little too over aggressive on defense. I think we'll work on some more playaction schemes on offense, and focus a bit more on zoning out the perimeter on defense."

Final Score Prediction: 27-20 Houston. Safe to say 41-10 is out of the question, so my thinking is the Texans are going to find a way to eek out of this battle. If Kubiak's defense manages to execute - and confuse Damon Huard - I think this will be a game of turnovers; something we are great at. Pay attention to Dunta Robinson, he's come close a couple of times now - just has to get his mits on the ball and we could see something change changing.

As for Green, you're right - not spectacular, but not as terrible as Slaton was last year. I'm very impressed with Schaub, haven't even thought of Harrell since. Schaub has a decent arm, accuracy could be better - but as you can see his composure in the pocket is what separates him from Harrell.

Even though we gave up big numbers again today, we managed to contain the Chiefs when it counted the most. I think the strength of the defense has been the passing defense - and players like Dunta Robinson and Demeco Ryans stepped up when needed. I'm honestly glad we got the win finally - hopefully the next one will be next week.

2k5rosters.com has all the updated rosters/franchise files. The franchise file I used (gr18's) had the 08-09 schedule up, as well as the coaches.

I don't have updated rosters with mine.

thanks man, yeah CJ looks to be healthy (oddly) this week, we'll see if that's just a glitch or not. I sure could use him - but Green got the job done eitherway.

Kubiak's Corner

Finnegan has been kind of an off/on playmaker since we got him last year from Tennessee. He is pretty aggressive against the pass instead of the run, he has 13 total tackles with 2 interceptions (6 assisted so it goes to show his tackling ability is lacking). Eitherway, I think he's a bit raw still and he's in a great position to start to learn the ropes more and more. Ahman Green does his thing - pretty funny because when you look at him, he seems just a little heavy - but has some fast steps.

The Consistent Qbs?: The Arizona Cardinals are ranked second in total offensive yards with 2068. This is a team that can score - and score quickly. Led by the veteran arm of Kurt Warner and the gifted ability of receiver Larry Fitzgerald - the Cardinals are taking the league by storm, suffering their only defeat to the Giants last week. Despite being one of the older quarterbacks in the league, Warner still manages to hold the starting spot over Trent Green and Matt Leinart. On the other side of the pig skin is six-year pro, Matt Schaub. Schaub, since taking over for the now traded rookie Graham Harrell, has been a shinging light for the much needed Texans offense. His consistency and calming in the pocket has shown why he has only thrown 1 interception in 3 games.

The Absence of Boldin: Earlier this week, the Cardinals dealt out their upset employee #2, Anquan Boldin. Boldin, who had only catched 19 balls for 221 yards (and one lone touchdown), shouted to the high heavens, demanding a trade. A trade is what happened and now the Cardinals are without the dual threat receiving core that most teams feared. The Texans are one of the worst, behind the Saints and Jets, defenses against the pass - but are one of the best against the run. The Cardinals will have to keep this in mind - and who knows, there could possibly be a position battle between Steve Breaston and Dennis Northcutt (acquired from Jaguars in Boldin trade) - Breaston has 144-yards on only 9 receptions.

The Score: 42-17 Cardinals. Even without Boldin, I think the Cardinals have the upper hand here with a superb offensive line and a more than explosive offense. Their defense is a young one, led by cornerback Antrell Role - but smart against the pass. While the Texans do have Chris Johnson back from injury (even though he was proclaimed to miss a month) after one game absent, I just do not think this will be a shoot-out like last week against the Chiefs. Schaub might have one of those tough days - feeling the pressure today in the pocket - his comfort zone. If Schaub gets out of the pocket, it could spell trouble for Kubiak and company.
