The Best Team in the NFC?

Well as of now you go with the Falcons due to record...but everyone knows any team can pretty much beat any team these days.

The Falcons aren't the best overall team. I can deal with the Giants or 49ers. But the Falcons simply are not.

At this point I'd pick the Giants with the 49ers #2. The Giants always find away to win, especially big games and I don't consider most of them luck wins like I would some of ATL wins

The only "luck win" I consider the Falcons have is vs Carolina. Without that deep pass outside the endzone, that was an L.. You could consider the Giants last 2 wins as luck.

They are doing it when they want to. I think they've shown that they are the most complete team. Every team has bad games and has looked bad at some point, including the undefeated Falcons.

If you want people to base this on record only then this is a stupid ass thread and there shouldn't even be a discussion.

They pick and chose games when they wanna dominate and click on all cylinders? I thought teams strive to do that every week, lol. Don't think I've ever heard that in football discussion.

1 or 2 plays and the Falcons are 6-2 with losses to the shitty Panthers and Raiders.

You can say stuff like this about every team. Every team has bad games. This is the NFL. The Giants are the best team, in my opinion, because they are multi-dimensional on offense and can consistently rush the passer and cause turnovers as good as anyone on defense. That's it. Why is this so difficult for you to grasp?

The 49ers would be 2nd, in my opinion, and the Texans 3rd. The Falcons are too one dimensional for my liking and I don't think their defense is anywhere near as good as the likes of the Niners, Texans, or Giants.

I just think you reached on the Giants dominance a bit.

I think Denver is definitely in the AFC discussion and their record will get better because their schedule does get a lot easier but I think they are the 3rd best team in the AFC, behind the Texans and Patriots.

I also think the Steelers are about to make a run. They just need Harrison, Polamalu, Clark, and Mendenhall to get healthy.

My opinion of NY isn't based off stats, its based off watching the struggle consistently early in games. They have been amazing in the 2nd half of games, which speaks volumes, but you can't expect to keep digging out of these early holes

Why are you judging them based on their 1st half performances instead of their 2nd half performances? Especially since they are 6-2?

I'm judging them based off the total product and the ability to put a complete game together. And Atlanta has done that more consistently than the giants have IMO.

I highly doubt you've seen every quarter and every game that both of these teams have played but whatever floats your boat.

There is no way I can vote for Atlanta right now. They've played some crappy games this year against crappy opponents, at home. They're good, but I don't think they can beat the upper-echelon teams in the NFL, in fact, I think Dallas upsets them Sunday night.

I say right now, the Giants are the NFC's team to beat.

A strong case can be made for many teams...For me it's hard to put the 49ers at 1 because I still don't trust Alex Smith. He had two awful games before facing that porous Cardinals defense last night.

Cardinal Defense is anything but porous. Porous is a word to describe their offensive line play (along with horrible, atrocious, why-does-russ-grimm-have-such-a-great-reputation-as-a-line-coach, etc) but the defense is the real deal.

Anyway, my brain wants me to pick the falcons, it makes the most sense, but theres just something about that team I can't take seriously. I'd say something like 9ers/g-men/falcons/bears/packers for a top 5.

Ok, so since we're now in agreement that one head-to-head matchup isn't a definitive ruler for determining a better team, then I'll keep going.

1. The Giants have looked decidedly unimpressive in four of their six wins. Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Washington, and Dallas. The 49ers beat two 2011 playoff teams to open the season, and beat the Jets/Bills/Cardinals by a combined score of 103-6.

They did that last year too.. (lost once to Charlie Whitehurst and twice to Rex Grossman.. nearly lost to a Dolphins team that was winless at the time) fact is they turn it on when it matters - i.e. against well, the 49ers.

2. The Giants defense ranks 26th against the pass and 19th against the run. We rank 2nd and 7th.

Giants D in 2011? 29th against the pass and 19th against the run. Again.. they play well when it matters.

3. The 49ers are the best run team in the league. The Giants rank 12th.

That's more of a product of the Giants having Eli Manning and the 49ers having Alex Smith, IMO. Smith is the game manager.. Eli is going to throw it 40 times a game.

They're the defending champs. They beat the 49ers 26-3. They rallied the last two weeks when they had to. The Giants are the NFC's best until proven otherwise. That's not a knock on Atlanta, San Fran, Green Bay, etc.. as they are all tough teams too.. just think you have to side with the champs here.
