It sounds like you and Shipwreck have similar taste in games. For the record, I think Shipwreck's taste in almost everything is horrible.

I don't see how saying his taste in games is different than yours isn't expressing virtually the same opinion, it's just the version that involves being less of a dick.

Anyway, I've already dipped into this more than I wanted to to begin with.

Last of Us is a great game, I probably won't be getting it on the PS4.

I absolutely do buy some very middling or mediocre games when they are crazy cheap. I don't think I've ever bought a downright terrible piece of shit but my opinion differs. Even if I did it was crazy cheap and I'd never try to say it was amazing.
Some of the idiots around here will bring up RE6. Not only did I only pay like $15-20 for it but I had a lot of fun with it, especially co-op. Was it a great game? Nope. But it was entertaining. TLoU is beyond great though.
As far as you not wanting to buy a game twice, that's your prerogative. I do it all the time. If I love a game I'll buy it for 360 and PS3. This is no different.

The Last of Us Remastered – Coming to PS4 Summer 2014

Well, it’s no secret that we have been working night and day at the studio to bring The Last of Us to PS4.

We’re calling it The Last of Us Remastered.

Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements. We love setting challenging technical hurdles for us when working on each game – and this is no different. We’ve been working hard on The Last of Us Remastered to release a next-gen evolution worthy of the 200+ Game of the Year awards, not to mention the acclaim and expectations of our fans. We will be revealing more detailed information about the upgrades for the PS4 version in the coming months.

In addition to all the technical updates, we’re also including an exclusive director’s commentary for all in-game cinematics featuring Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor, Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and BAFTA Award winning Voice Actress, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.

The story is one of the best in games. The voice acting was incredible. The writing of the dialogue was top notch. It's the best looking game of the PS3/360 generation. Despite what JMS or others say, the combat was great. Getting a headshot with a rifle is so satisfying. Hitting an enemy with a shotgun at close range felt oh so good. The stealth especially was expertly done. The sense of actual survival was probably the best I've ever seen in any 'survival' or 'survival horror' game. The RPG elements of upgrading your charcter and weapons was done well. It was one of the most brutal and gruesome games I've ever played. You "felt" every melee encounter. The sense of tension when trying to avoid the clickers and really just dealing with enemies in general was the best I've seen. The fact that the game is basically one big escort mission but not ONCE does it feel like you're being hampered in any way by the other character.

It also didn't hurt that the story DLC was probably the best piece of DLC I've ever played.

My only real knock on the game was how sometimes you would be taken out of the experience when an NPC like Ellie would try to get to cover and and walk right past an enemy and not be seen.

Well, I can't speak for jms, but I can for myself. First, the good stuff. The story, in spite of some drawn out parts to lengthen gameplay, is exceptional. The ending in particular, is probably the most well done conclusion to a video game ever. The voice acting and graphics are both top notch. Character interactions are wonderful, and serve to really create protagonists that you care about. It's the kind of top notch stuff that most other studios/writers strive for but often don't comes close, IMO (looking in particular at the mess that is the Metal Gear Solid story).

But, it's a video game, and for me, the actual gameplay part is what keeps it pretty well out of reach as far as being the great game of all time. It is as simplistic and repetitive as an Uncharted game. Wave after wave of guys that could be described as "hencman 1" come flowing into the battle arenas over and over in the "combat" sections (which, to its credit, are often at least somewhat possible to complete stealth-wise, unlike Uncharted), and then there are the sections where you see spores, which turns into stealth sequence after stealth sequence, peppered with an occasional moment where you piss everything off and run to a safe spot to take down all those enemies running at you. Throw in there telegraphed signs that these arenas exist (spores and your gas mask for stealth/clicker scenes, an insane abundance of bottles and/or bricks to pick up for combat scenes), and the entire thing started to wear on me.

It sounds overly harsh, and it's not meant to, really. I think that the game is great. I just wouldn't personally call it the greatest of all time, because by the middle part, I was sick of playing it and only doing so for the story.
