Notre Dame Blue-Gold game to be televised nationally
Tribune Staff Report
The first mention of the quasi-historic wrinkle to Notre Dame football's annual Blue-Gold Game isn't unveiled until the third paragraph of the press release, but it's worth the wait.
For the first time in the 83-year history of ND's intrasquad spring-practice capper, the game will be televised nationally. The Versus network will telecast the game live on April 16, beginning at 2 p.m. EDT.
Additionally, Versus will rebroadcast three Irish classics on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. — the 1992 Penn State game, since dubbed "The Snow Bowl" (5 p.m. EDT); the "Bush Push" game vs. USC in 2005 (7 p.m. EDT); and the No. 1-vs.-No. 2 matchup against Florida State in 1993 (9 p.m. EDT).
Throughout the three-game celebration, hosted by Liam McHugh, the network will conduct in-depth interviews with current Irish head coach Brian Kelly as well as Notre Dame legends, such as ex-NFL superstar Jerome Bettis.
Beginning Monday, fans can visit NBCSports.com to watch clips and vote for the 10 "Greatest Notre Dame on NBC Moments." The results will be unveiled during Versus' six hours of "Celebrate the Irish" coverage on St. Patrick's Day.
