Tampa Bay Players to Watch

Carnell Williams is the main offensive player to watch for in this football game, as he has bounced back from his injury problems superbly. Josh Freeman is also a player to watch, as he will need to keep the defense off balance in order to compete. The Seahawks defense as a whole has been shaky of late, so this could be the Bucs best chance at picking up their first win.

Seattle Seahawks Players to Watch
Players to watch, or in this case players that you won't be able to watch. Both T.J Houshmanzadeh and Leroy Hill will miss the game this weekend. Houshmanzadeh is out with an ankle problem and Hill a forearm. Housh is the teams best possession wide out and Hasselbecks go to target when he needs a clutch completion. Leroy Hill is a good run stopper and above average linebacker in pass defense, and will be sorely missed on the right side.

Seattle Loses Game Late, Defense Struggles Against the Caddy

Seattle Turnovers are yet again a problem for Seattle, who committed 4 today putting the defense in a few tight positions. Josh Freeman opened things up off a Matt Hasselbeck turnover by connecting with Sammie Stroughter for 44 yards and a score. Tampa was also able to sack Matt Hasselbeck in the endzone for a safety, making it 9-0 at the end of the first. Cedric Peerman was able to run in from the 14 yard line to start the second, but Caddy Williams countered with his own touchdown run. It was 16-7 heading into halftime.

Matt Hasselbeck started to feel it in the third quarter, connecting with both Owen Schmitt and Deon Butler for touchdowns. Butler hooked up with Hasselbeck for 53 yards and continues to look like one of Seattle's brightest young players. Unfortunately, momentum was nearly impossible to seize because the Tampa Bay Bucs all rode in Caddies on the way to Seattle. Williams pocketed his second touchdown of the day with 4 minutes to go in the third this time from 47 yards out. It was 23-22 TBB heading into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter Jeff Reed was able to hit a 35 yard field goal which ended up proving costly. Deon Butler scored his second TD of the game from 26 yards out this time, making it a 29-26 game for Seattle.

The Seattle defense showed it's youth, coming up one stop short this game allowing Josh Freeman to connect with Kellen Winslow for 14 yards and the go ahead score. Because the Seahawks needed 4 and not 3, they were able to get deep into Tampa Bay territory but not connect for the final strike.

The Seahawks have lost two games in a row and host Arizona who is 3-3. Seattle is 2-4 on the season.

Arizona Players to Watch
Arizona still has the high flying offense of Kurt Warner, Larry Fitz, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston which does not bode well for a team that only plays 4 DB and has a tendency to not be able to force turnovers. If Arizona wants to win it will come down to Kurt Warner effectively marching the offense up and down the field building a lead early. Matt Hasselbeck hasn't look great so far the five times we've seen him this season so passing may become a bit of a problem. I'm also looking forward to watching Rodgers-Cromartie go at it with T.J Houshmanzadeh. Arizona is without Kyle Cook, Matt Leinart, Eric Foster, Beanie Wells, and Early Doucet.


Seattle Seahawks Players to Watch
Chris Spencer will miss today's game. It will be interesting to see if Cedric Peerman can find some holes and break off a big run or two, he will be key to delivering a balanced passing attack. The entire front seven had a spectacular performance on Sunday, hurrying throws creating pressure and plugging up most holes to run with. They will need to stay dominant to be competitive.

Seattle Holds onto Halloween Victory Thanks to Great First Half

Seattle Although Seattle nearly blew it, they were able to pick up a much needed victory over the Arizona Cardinals, a divisional foe. Cedric Peerman started the scoring taking a toss to the left in for a score and Josh Wilson followed less than a minute later returning an INT for a TD. Wilson has been thrust into the first CB position since the departure of Marcus Trufant. Darius Reynaud had himself a monster second quarter, catching a 29 yard TD pass and returning a punt 83 yards for a TD. Lerod Stephens-Howling was able to take the following kick back for a score, but a late TD from Cedric Peerman made it 35-7 going into halftime.

Seattle only mustered 3 points in the second half while allowing 24, but it proved to be enough. Leon Washington, just signed to the squad this week, broke off a 49 yard run on Seattle taking it to the house. Neil Rackers and Olindo Mare traded field goals making it 38-14 heading into the final quarter. Kurt Warner started to heat up on this Halloween Day game, hitting both Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin for TD passes. But the defense was able to make one crucial stop in the closing seconds preserving the victory.

Through 8 games this season it has become painstakingly obvious consistency is not our strongest point. There have been glimpses of greatness, games within games if you will. At times the offense has moved with ease and the defense had an easy time of forcing three and outs. But we have also seen the anemic side of Matt Hasselbeck and the offense as well as the mental lapses and vulnerability to the big play on defense. The Quarterback play has been the epitome of shaky. Hasselbeck has thrown up to 4 INT but has also led the offense in games that there have been 48 and 38 points. Cedric Peerman and C.J Spiller have been formidable rushing the ball, but have not blown anyone away. Offensive line and Wide Receivers have been solid as well.

The defense has been no better, shutting down running games in one week but allowing rushers for over 200 yards in other games. The shaky secondary has returned for a second year in a row while the linebackers have predominantly done their job although the middle of the field has been a soft spot during passing downs from time to time. Even with all of the inconsistency and injuries, the Seahawks find themselves at 3-4. 3-4 is still within striking distance from the final wild card spot, but could also take them out of the running for one of the coveted top draft picks. As a Seahawks fan what would you rather see, a top 10 pick or a potential 6 seed in the playoffs?

San Diego Players to Watch
San Diego has been fortunate enough to avoid the injury bug through the first 8 weeks of the season and hope nothing changes today. Philip Rivers leads the high profiled offense of the Chargers, looking to connect with Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd. Don't sleep on Ladainian Tomlinson out of the backfield, who is complemented by Darren Sproles. On defense Shawn Merriman will look to be a force off the edge.

Seattle will be without Terrence Cody and Leroy Hill in todays game. Seattle has to get the offense going early behind Matt Hasselbeck, who needs to find his consistency in the second half of the season. Cedric Peerman will look to exploit holes up the middle on this Chargers defense. Colin Cole will have to step up in the absense of Cody. Josh Wilson will be at a huge disadvantage on the outside against a very tall Vincent Jackson.

Deon Butler scored a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, which was the lone TD of the day.

Carolina Players to Watch
Carolina boasts one of the most formidable running back duo's in all of football with Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. This defense is susceptible to big plays so watch for both guys to get into open space early and often. On defense, Jon Beason is the leader and a huge part of making stops in the run game. He annually leads the team in tackles by a wide margin and is one of the most dominating MLB's in the league.

Seattle is only down Leroy Hill this week, and Tyrone Mckenzie has filled in admirably during his short absence. I am interested to see how Terrence Cody will do plugging up the middle against this team. Cody has been a dominating presence in his first season. I am also interested to see if John Carlson can get back into the mix. He has been awfully quiet this season.

Seahawks Lose on Panthers Final Drive

Carolina It seems that Olindo Mare enjoys starting the scoring off. It seems the recurring theme is the offense must stall out on their opening drive allowing Mare to get into his groove early. Deangelo Williams ran in the first touchdown of the game, capping off a 7-3 quarter. Nate Burleson was on the receiving end of a 12 yard pass from Matt Hasselbeck to start the second quarter. The Burleson Hasselbeck relationship seems to be the most steady on the team. Deangelo Williams ran in his second touchdown of the day, this time from 20 yards out. Javier Arenas provided a huge energy boost, returning the following kickoff 93 yards for a score. Arenas continues to prove how electrifying of a special teams player he is. Martin Gramatica finished out the first half with a 31 yard field goal, bringing the score to half 17-17.

C.J Spiller scored his first touchdown of his young NFL career today, taking a 3 yard touchdown run right up the middle. Steve Smith caught a 9 yard TD pass from Jake Delhomme to knot the game back up. Deon Butler has been the most consistent touchdown threat on the team, and today was no different. Butler caught a beautiful over the shoulder pass in the corner of the endzone from Hasselbeck, putting the Seahawks up by 7. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, the spotty secondary play bit them in the ass yet again as they relingquished two 60 yard TD passes in a matter of minutes. The first was to David Clowney. After going three and out, Deon Grant blew an assignment leading to a wide open Joe Walsh who took it the distance.
