Tottenham Hotspur has sensationally hijacked Liverpool’s move for Gylfi Sigurdsson and is expected to confirm the signing of the midfielder from Hoffenheim this week.

The Londoners have agreed an 8 million pound transfer fee with the German club and personal terms with the 22-year-old after making their move last week.

Goal.com understands Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was furious to learn over the weekend that Sigurdsson had chosen to move to White Hart Lane despite holding extensive talks with the Reds.

The Iceland international worked with Rodgers during a highly successful loan spell at Swansea last season, scoring seven goals in 19 appearances, and the Ulsterman was keen to reunite with the player at Anfield.

But Sigurdsson has decided to join Spurs, despite the fact that they have no manager following the decision to sack Harry Redknapp earlier this month.

Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas and France coach Laurent Blanc are the leading contenders as Spurs step up their search this week.

The deal for Sigurdsson is in its final stages and likely to be confirmed before the weekend as Tottenham plans to mount a challenge for a top four finish next season.

Hoffenheim had given Sigurdsson leave until June 30 to sort out his future after he stalled over a 6.8m pound switch to Swansea when Rodgers resigned to take over on Merseyside.

The former Reading man is seen as a useful addition to the squad to compete with Rafael Van der Vaart for an attacking midfield role, especially with playmaker Luka Modric almost certain to be sold this summer.

We are too slow in the transfer market. We wait around for no reason at all to bring in players. We lacked a killer instinct on the field this season and seem to lack one off of it as well. That said goal.com is an awful website and I'll wait to see an article from some place legitimate.

I follow this rule for everything except the guardian, they don't usually report baseless rumors. Also fixed that for you.

And they're reporting Hoffenheim have accepted an 8m bid as well, but Sigurdsson hasn't agreed to a contract with Spurs yet.

i think Liverpool is just trying to negotiate the best price and that is why it takes so long and some players get away. teams like Chelsea, City, Real, etc have made it near impossible for others to do well in the transfer market

But I agree, there is no value anymore. And teams like to quote average players at 17-20 mil. I guess I shouldnt say no value, you just have to find it and know how to negotiate it.
 
Reading have signed Danny Guthrie on a free, good deal for them. Thought he should've stayed at Newcastle really, he's not going to be put in a much better situation than being the third CM at a club in Europe, but he wants playing time so fair enough. Thrives a lot when he's not the main man, will be interesting to see how they play him.

Michael Bradley's been linked to a move to Juventus, Roma, Palermo and a few others. Personally would like to see him leave Italy if those are his options. Juventus would be nice, but not sure he would get a lot of time considering the central midfielders they already have.

Also, Donovan put his LA house up for sale............

You're gonna see more and more of this. The Chinese just throw tons of dollars at any star athletes wiling to play in their sporting leagues. Desperate to develop soccer and basketball in that country.
 
Bradley would be used as Champions League depth. Pirlo cannot continue to play in every game like he did last year. Especially with CL.
 
They already have Claudio Marchisio, Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Emanuele Giaccherini. Youngster Luca Marrone struggles for game time, even as a substitute - and they've now strengthened their midfield considerably. Udinese's Kwadwo Asamoah is going too. Add in youngster Omar El Kaddouri, who has signed from Brescia. And that fucker Paul Pogba who is leaving united.

Stay away from Juve.

Speaking of Juve. They just signed Lucio on a free from Inter. Inter wanted his wages gone. And Juve got alot for their new CL season.
