This is why I don't understand why people say the baseball HOF is so much harder to get into than the football HOF. It's the complete opposite. Baseball lets in all sorts of bums, football leaves out people like Cris Carter and Bill Parcells.

He did it in 10 years, above him are Sanders (9 years), Payton (12 years) and Emmitt (14 years). Tomlinson is behind him by 500 yards in 10 years.

Martin was a guy who stayed healthy and carried the ball a million times. He never blew you away with a great skillset or came off as a great player. He would compile 1200 yard seasons without a single run over 20 yards.

I guess there is something to be said for his big numbers, but when it came to the eye test, at least for me, I never thought I was watching a special HOF type talent who dominated games.

4 yards a carry in his career, he was never a burner or big play guy but always managed to move the ball and get needed 1st downs all game every game. He was not excellent at anything, but was good at everything and prob one of the smarter RB's always picked the right hole, knew his pass protection assignments and avoided taking big hits.

Over 100 yards from scrimmage per game, 100 TDs...I have no problem with Martin getting in. Carter and Brown, I'm not sure how they keep being kept out. It's not going to get any easier in the coming years, either...

With that said, does that sound like the description of an all time elite player?

Phrases like "not excellent at anything", "good at everything", and "never a big play guy" would probably never come up if you wrote a short paragraph about Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Ladanian Tomlinson, Gayle Sayers, etc etc etc....

Eh, i'm not offended by Martin's inclusion, but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that he's an all time great. I don't think I would have voted for him, myself.

Personally, I'd have no problem leaving both Curtis & Bettis out. That said, if I had to pick one of the two I go with Martin and its really not that close. He was much more consistently among the top backs in the game while Bettis only had a few such years. JB happens to have a much bigger, more likeable personality and hung around long enough to rack up yards but is in no way a HOF caliber back. At least Martin was a pretty sure bet to finish top 10 in rushing yards, TD and among the leading backs in receiving for roughly a decade.

I think CC should be in but has some baggage voters might be shying away from.

Parcells should be a no-brainer.

I've never been as high on Tim Brown as a lot of people. Honestly, I'd be fine if he didn't make it. If he does, I don't think he should go in before CC.
