In Madden 09, AP was a 95 overall. And that was after his Rookie year.

true but remember the revamped the rating system.

I know some people think players are overrated/underrated but then if you look at the attributes they are around what they should.

Talent wise probably, stat wise no. If he stays healthy and gets more carries then he will be in the top ten soon.

Good question.

On one hand Id like to say because he was an above average backup for many years so hes somewhat proven. Atleast more than a rookie sensation.

On the other hand Id like to say that EA has no method to their mayhem.

LOL. So Madden Rating's are rated on seasons prior to 2009 and not last year? So TJ should have a higher rating that Forte and Johnson because he had good years in 2005 and 2006?


Ratings depend on what the player MAINLY did the previous year, and not every year prior.

Not what I was saying exactly but go ahead and toss those words in my mouth. I'm saying one great year is not always enough. Not saying take their entire past but other things factor in like consistency over the past couple years as celts said. At least that's how it should be IMO. Those now 1 year vets have a ton of room for improvement anyway. They'll be top ten in ratings in a matter of no time in Madden.

Im not gonna defend EA though. Like I said, sometimes there's no reason for how they do it.

I think Frank Gore is too high up on the list. Then also Ladainian Tomlinson. LT is probably top 5 because of how good he has done in the past. He is not worthy of a 94 rating. Maybe between 89-91. Steve Slaton, Matt Forte, and Chris Johnson were 6, 7, and 8 in the league in rushing yards but not one of them crack the top ten list of running backs.

My Top 10 list of Running Backs would go as follows:

1. Adrian Peterson - 97
2. Michael Turner - 96
3. Deangelo Williams - 95
4. Clinton Portis - 93
4. Brian Westbrook - 93
6. Steve Slaton - 91
6. Matt Forte - 91
6. Thomas Jones - 91
9. Ladainian Tomlinson - 90
9. Chris Johnson - 90

Steve Slaton is not a feature back, he is a good back but not worth of top 10, you saw him at the end of last season get very tired and was not performing well. A good back but not top 10.

Westbrooks ratings are a joke, That guy was absolut garbage last year and had no wiggle. He should have to prove himself. He is not 99 elusivness anymore. He has lost his wiggle

Im glad Ray Lewis and Ed Reed both have 99 PRC, its a shame it means nothing lol

I also think they where a bit harsh with AD's carry rating, i mean 69???
And why have so many backs got vision in the high 90's??

Anyway the ratings are just ratings and there is not put moaning about them as by week 2 it will all be changed lol

How the hell isn't Steve Slaton a feature back? Plus this list is the top 10 backs. He was #6 in the league in rushing yards plus had 50 catches. He had 318 touches from scrimmage last year and no he did not get tired. IMO rushing for 100 yards and averaging 4 ypc is pretty well.

Frank Gore hasn't been a great threat running and barely eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards each of the past 2 seasons. Now Steven Jackson might deserve to be top 10 i just don't like him very much.


Thinking of Jackson probably a 92 ovr right behind portis and westbrook.

I have to agree...looking at Yahoo Sports! his overall yards of rushing was less than a 100 in a couple of the games, but when he was given the ball his lowest avg (in last 4 games) was 3.7 ypc. I think that has more to do with the calls being made than him getting tired (IMO). The Texans have found their guy, they just want another (or need) RB that is more head on when taking defenders.

I never said Peyton was going to get any of those, I simply said there isn't a QB in the NFL that deserves anything close to that more then Peyton Manning.

lol okay cool, it's not like we didn't take one from you guys in week 1. If not for Favre's complete collapse down the stretch throwing pick after pick who knows what would have happened. We have a strong team coming back next season with an even better coach. I'm excited for next season. Can't really say much about Mark until we see some actual NFL game play from him but I'm glad we snagged him in the draft than sitting at our original spot. We didn't give up shit for that pick. But yeah have your fun now because I remember 2 seasons ago I couldn't even go on the Miami Dolphins message boards and find any fans cause all you guys were in hiding.

Thats like saying Willis McGahee should be a 92 with 99 stiff arm and 95 trucking and 95 elusivness becasue he was injured last year and played like garbage just like Westbrook did. I love Brian Westbrook but he should be rated as to how he played last season and thats why i have that view. When Healthy he is a monster but he should prove himself because he is in the 30+ club now i believe.

Last year Jared Gaither only let in 2 sacks and one was against Harrison, i watch a lot of Steeler football as i wont them to lose everyweek lol but non the less Harrison is a monster, He is IMO the best passrusher in the NFL as he uses his leverage to his sdvantage and he has every move donw pat. He is stout against the run and all cardinal fans know what hes like in coverage if you catch my drift. The fact that he isnt rated higher than a guy like Kevin Williams or the same as Demarcus Ware is a joke because IMO he is a more polished player than the both of them.

Matt Ryan is a good QB, but I wouldn't call him top 10 after just 1 season.

Updates throughout the year may make him a top QB though.

I hate overall ratings because the people making them, in this case Donny Moore (whom I have tremendous respect for, btw, as I've had the chance to sit down and talk ratings with him), have to feel compelled to reach a certain level of overall instead of simply reflecting realistic individual aspects of the player's game.

It was worse years ago when they'd give a guy like Jeff Garcia good arm strength or Donovan McNabb great accuracy just to get his overall to a point that people would approve of. Players have weaknesses and those weaknesses drop a guy who we perceive should have a really high rating down.

We as fans, from even the hardest core sim guys among us, have a nasty tendency to lean on overalls. We should learn to stop going "This dude should be a 92!!!" and look at individual categories and determine if those look right, but be realistic.

Tom Brady with a 97 throwing power? The same arm strength EA is giving to Jay Cutler. Now I do think Tom Brady is the best QB in the NFL and in my opinion should be rated ahead of Manning, but giving Brady a gun equal to Cutler is ridiculous. I'm not saying Brady has a weak arm but he doesn't have one of the top arm stengths in the league like Cutler.
