My beef is that the UFC has done a very bad job of getting top LW talent, besides BJ Penn the UFC LW division is guys coming down after losses at 170 and guys off of TUF

The UFC LW division was built on a 'title' fight between an unranked Florian and Sherk after losses at 170, while all the top LW's have been fighting each other in Japan all these years, none of them have been brought over to the UFC to fight Penn, for the number 1 MMA org in the world with the most money it is awful that they cant get LW talent in the UFC these last couple of years

Who do you think out of the lightweights around the globe could pose the biggest threat to Penn. Penn should be able to take care of Aoki easily. Would Hansen be the man?

I think Aoki is clearly the number 2 LW in the world based on wins, but style wise BJ would rough him up pretty good, but I would still like to see it

I think for someone to beat BJ at 155 they have to be a dynamic/technical striker and have good enough TD defense, the 2 best guys to give Penn a tough fight would be probably be a healthy Josh Thomson and KJ Noons with better TD defense, Alvarez and Hansen are to reckless on there feet and BJ would pick them apart

Josh is a big LW with great kicks and movement, KJ has some of the best boxing in MMA, not saying they would beat BJ, but they have a style to give BJ some problems

In the states, EVERYBODY cuts weight. Look at Yoshihiro Akiyama, Alan Belcher DWARFED him in his UFC debut. Okami is one of the few Japanese fighters that cuts a lot of weight.

Hansen really should be at 145 and Aoki, even though he's fought at WW before, doesn't have the strength to hang with bigger athletes (see: Aoki vs. Sakurai). Kawajiri, Alvarez, and JZ are the only three guys I see that can legitimately compete with Penn.

Griffin & Edgar would be a great challenge for Penn. Those two have a much better shot against him than the majority of the LWs outside the UFC.

Read a stat that the last time someone in a lightweight fight successfully took Penn down, it was Gomi in their fight years ago.

Not one man since then (lightweights) could take Penn down.

Fight metric said that Diego tried 27 takedowns and got none. He also landed a whopping 8 strikes the whole fight
