UFC 128 - Shogun vs. Jones (3/19)

Cardio didn't have anything to do with that loss, but I was shocked to find out that Shogun actually tapped out Sat night. It's hard to question the heart of any fighter, but you definitely don't expect to see Shogun tap from strikes.

He's not done, and I don't think Rua should instantly give up on 205. If his cardio is in question at 205, I don't exactly see it being a lot better at 185. There are a couple interesting fights for him at 205 - Rampage and Forrest mainly. I'd love to see Rua vs. And1 at 185, though. That's been a dream fight for me although it would be under less than epic circumstances.

Unfortunately, the cutting down talk is just speculation because Rua has said he would never return to MW and would only consider a jump to HW. How adamant he is about that we don't know.

Hes insanely easy to take down , and Rashad is much faster than he is. . Shogun lines up favorably to Machida ,Rampage , and others but not Evans/Jones.

How many times has he flopped around like a dead fish seconds into round 1. Guy has no gas and no heart. Two times hes gotten pressed 2 times hes folded.

Thats as quick as Ive seen an elite guy get winded. Him tapping after that drop is showcasing his lack of heart. Hes not some random street dude..hes the LHW champ. No excuse for gassing or quitting at that level.

I mentioned earlier in this thread its been 4+ years since that titles been successfully defended more than once. If that doesnt motivate you to be in the best shape possible than I dont know what to say. Considering he was initially going up against a cardio machine and hold you against the cage and mat guy in Evans he should have been a spring chicken. If you know your cardio is crap..than you go out like a bat out of hell like he did against Machida.
Those knees are shot.
 
I dont even know why your guys are talking about cardio/gassing in regards to that fight, Shogun was just beat the fuck down, thats why he was looking so gassed out early.. he was beaten and wobbly. If he wasnt gonna come out agressive and swinging (which I hoped he would), he was gonna catch a beating from a much bigger guy.

I do still question Shogun's cardio regardless, and the whole "recovering from injury" excuse needs to stop by now, because thats been his excuse for quite some time now. He should've came in ready, and he looked ready to me. It was just a beat down.. no other way to put out.

Yes, I was very surprised with (Jones’) game, Shogun trained a lot, Jones was able to neutralize my brother’s game, I think he studied Shogun’s game a lot, so congrats to him. Shogun now needs to go back to Brazil and analyze the fight, see what went wrong in the fight and go from there, ball forward.

I think (Jones) has a brilliant future ahead of him, he’s a very young athlete, but in this weight class I think it’s very hard… people don’t seem to be able to keep the title for more than one fight. Everyone wins and then loses the belt so it’s a very tough weight class and there are a lot of great fighters, so we’ll see, he’s a young guy and will stay strong going forward, but Shogun will be able to make a strong come back, for sure.

I think (what went wrong during the fight) was that the very first strikes Jones landed on Shogun, that knee and the head kick, may have taken his gas away.

I don't think the injury recovery excuse is eligible here considering all the time he had after the surgery. Ring rust? Maybe, but I think Jones simply beat the shit out of him (That was painful to type). No amount of cardio would have stopped what transpired.

One thing that bothered me about the fight was Shogun forfeiting TWO chances at taking Jones' back and instead opting to go for leg locks, which is a typically low-success move in MMA - even for the leg submission elites like Kitaoka, Imanari, Palhares, etc.
