In 1981, Morris “Red” Badgro at the age of 78 became the oldest person ever elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame at that time. The 45-year span between his final game with the National Football League’s 1936 Brooklyn Dodgers and his election also was a record. The Badgro saga is even more unusual in that he wasn't even sure he wanted to play pro football and, in fact, retired after one year with the NFL’s 1927 New York Yankees to give pro baseball a try.

Red played in the major leagues for two years with the St. Louis Browns but eventually decided to give pro football another look. The football Yankees had folded so Red signed with the New York Giants. During his six-year tenure with the Giants that began in 1930, the team was a solid championship contender every year and Badgro, a two-way end, was one of the most honored stars. He was named to an all-league first or second-team in 1930, 1931, 1933, and 1934.

Badgro, who was born in Ordillia, Washington on December 1, 1902, was highly regarded as a sure-tackling defender and an effective blocker on offense but he was also a talented receiver. In 1934, he tied for the NFL's pass-catching crown with 16 receptions, a significant number in those defense-dominated days when most NFL teams concentrated on grind-it-out football. He also had the distinction of being the first player to score a touchdown in the NFL championship series that began in 1933.

Red made many other key catches that were converted into Giants' victories, including a 15-yard reception that was a key play in a long drive for the game’s only score in a 3-0 New York divisional title win. Badgro had his big defensive moments as well. Playing against the Boston Redskins in 1935, Red blocked a punt and returned it for a go-ahead touchdown.

Badgro passed away on July 13, 1998 at the age of 95.

What did he ever do on the gridiron in the NFL? Why does he deserve to be nominated as the best athlete to ever wear the NFL uniform number 16, not to mention the best professional athlete to ever wear the uniform number 16? Joe twice led the NFL in passing touchdowns (1982 - 17 and 1987 - 31,) and once in yards per pass attempt (1989 at 9.1 yds/att.) What really tells the story of how good a quarterback and true passer Joe Montana was, is the fact that he led the NFL in pass completion percentage five times (1980 at 64.5%, 1981 at 63.7%, 1985 at 61.3%, 1987 at 66.8%, and 1989 at an amazing 70.2%.)
Quite simply, you can certainly make an argument for Joe Montana being the best NFL quarterback ever.

The son of an Air Force NCO, Starr played high school football at Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, where he earned a spot in the school's Hall of Fame. He played college football at Alabama, and was a 17th round pick (200th overall) in the 1956 NFL Draft. After his playing career, Starr was the head coach of the Packers for nine seasons (1975–1983), compiling a 52–76–3 record.

Starr was responsible for calling plays when he was quarterback, as was the norm at the time. One of his most famous play calls was in the Ice Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL championship game on the final day of 1967. Instead of handing off (as the play was designed), Starr sneaked the ball himself, and with the winning touchdown, the Packers won their third straight NFL championship, the fifth in seven years.

Two weeks later in Miami, the Packers defeated the AFL champion Oakland Raiders 33–14 in Super Bowl II, Lombardi's final game as head coach of the Packers. Starr's playing career ended at the conclusion of the 1971 season.

In 1965, while with the Packers, he and his wife Cherry helped co-found Rawhide Boys Ranch, in New London, Wisconsin, a facility designed to help at-risk and troubled boys throughout the state, and is affiliated with it to this day.

Tittle began his career with the Baltimore Colts of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1948, who eventually joined the NFL in 1950. The Colts became defunct after that season, and Tittle joined the San Francisco 49ers, playing there for ten seasons, often struggling for playing time.

In 1961, the 49ers traded Tittle to the New York Giants for guard Lou Cordileone. Tittle went on to lead the Giants to three straight Eastern Division titles, part of a team that featured such great players as Del Shofner, Aaron Thomas, Joe Walton, Frank Gifford, Alex Webster, Dick Lynch, Jimmy Patton, Roosevelt Brown, Andy Robustelli, Sam Huff, Erich Barnes and Joe Morrison. Tittle threw seven touchdown passes on October 28, 1962, in a game against the Washington Redskins that the Giants won 49-34. In 1963, he set what was then an NFL record by throwing 36 touchdown passes. The only thing missing from Tittle's impressive résumé was an NFL championship. The Giants lost the title game every year from 1961 to 1963.

head inury on the play and retired from professional football the next season.

Y.A. Tittle was the first and one of only seven quarterbacks in NFL history to have achieved consecutive 30-touchdown passing seasons. The others are Steve Bartkowski, Brett Favre, Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, and Jeff Garcia. Tittle's 36 touchdown passes in the 1963 season would remain an NFL record until Marino threw 48 touchdown passes in 1984.

Y.A. was another NFL QB that hit the big screen. He played
an opposing head coach in the movie “Any Given Sunday.”
