I tried to give him to the Bengals in the vote but it was shot down. Honestly I could see him falling to early 2nd round come April though. WR is no longer a premium position come draft time and the amount of talent at OT and on the DL will force them all to fall.

Well thank God you're not in charge of the team...why in the hell would we draft another wide receiver? Crabtree and Morgan are young and emerging stars, so we're gonna spend a first round pick on a slot receiver? Besides, we have far more pressing needs.

Why would they draft another WR

Because he can also do returns as well as compete to be our #2. I like Morgan, but what's wrong with competition? Morgan looks like he can be good, but what's wrong with having a stacked offense? What's wrong with surrounding our QB with talent? With the 13th pick we could go tackle if one's there, but if not why reach for one? Other than Eric Berry/Rolando McClain/Joe Haden, who else would fill a position of need if no tackle is worth that pick? BPA, would and should be the route to go at 13.

9ers Oline problems were mostly at the interior line and no Guards are worth drafting at either of our slots in the 1st, so that would be addressed in the 2nd or maybe if we trade back with one of our picks.

BTW, please tell me our pressing needs that can be addressed with the 16/17 pick? 9ers aren't good enough for a developmental pick at any position. It's either a clear upgrade or nothing. What position other than WR/Return would provide an immediate impact at that slot?

I think the 49ers have other major problems they need to address then to draft another WR in the early rounds of the draft.

Like what? No pass rusher is worth the 16/17th pick(one that fits in a 3-4 at least) and with 2 picks in the 1st round BPA is and should be the route to go. Besides, i think taht will get addressed through FA. The team's most pressing need is interior line help and I don't think any are worth taking in the middle of the 1st. The other pressing need is a return man and I think they get that plus more out of Golden Tate at either the 16/17 spot.

the only defense we need to draft is db and there were no top prospects on the board still when it was my pick. o-line is a huge need and had a great player availible. the only other option was runningback and even if willie leaves we have logan, moore andf mendenhall. stfu and go back to plagarizing mel kiper and mcshay.

Damn...49ers deep at WR? No. There's Crabtree and Morgan then the rest are question marks. Brandon Jones will probably be cut if they don't rework his contract? Jason Hill is probably gone this offseason? Arnaz Battle I like, but he couldn't get past 5th on the depth chart now, so his time is probably done? The 9ers are looking to upgrade their return game and Golden Tate would be that and at the very least, push for the #2 spot. If anything the 49ers are deep in mediocrity at WR.

But past the #2 you don't need great receivers! How many teams have a great, well-known #3 wideout? Teams get extra WR's deep in the draft and in free agency, NOT IN THE FIRST ROUND! Not to mention they have the best pass-catching TE in football in Vernon Davis. Now why on earth would they burn their FIRST ROUND PICK on another wideout when they don't even have a reliable quarterback to get them the ball? Come on dude, get a grip.

Highly unlikely they draft a Qb in the 1st round. You're talking like someone who's never watched them play and know nothing about their team needs.

Plus last time I checked Ronnie has only played one full season in his five year career. He's good for 7 or 8 games and then his knee blows out. It's a shame because I honestly feel he'd be a top 5 back if he could stay healthy. Regardless, Spiller's big play ability would be HUUUGGEEEE for this offense.

Would be cool to see Spiller in the Wildcat.

Every team should be BAP. Fuck drafting for need...that's how you screw your team over. Sign FAs for need, draft the best damn player you can get, regardless of position.

So you're telling me they need to upgrade over Goldson and that Goldson is a special teamer? I thought that as the season went on, Goldson played pretty damn good. The only part of that article I agree with is maybe the 9ers need someone at Right Tackle, but they got pretty good play out of both T spots by midseason. To me it seemed like their issues this season were more at both Guard spots and I don't think there are any G's worth taking that early. I see no need for a DE. We're pretty deep there. There's potential at our OLB spots and I could see us looking for an upgrade there, but is there anyone worth drafting at the 13 or 16/17 picks?

Yeah, I forgot he said that...I don't agree with the Goldson remark, I actually like him. But Michael Lewis has to go, and Thomas/Mays is a good fit for that spot. And yes, they're both "worth drafting" at those spots.

As far as guard...no, it doesn't look like there will be anyone available who will deserve that spot, but right tackle is also an area of concern. I'm a firm believer that a solid offensive line is the most important part of an offense. Give me an o-lineman over Golden Tate any day of the week. And I think that a tackle "worth drafting" at that spot will be available.

And at DE/OLB...this is really an area that I believe we'll draft if there's no one available in the secondary or o-line. It's low on the list of priorities, but certainly higher than wide receiver. Here's my list:

1. O-line
2. Secondary (Safety & Cornerback)
3. DE/OLB

I think we're just a few pieces away from being playoff contenders. But we still have weaknesses on both sides of the ball. Instead of going the Detroit route and just taking the best player on the board, let's take the best player on the board as it pertains to our team needs.

Man...you took the words right out my mouth right up until you got to the part about a reliable QB. Rest assured, Alex Smith will be behind center in 2010, and will continue to show improvement. The guy has never had any semblance of consistency with his offense, or the offensive gameplan. Now it look like he's going to have that, so we'll see how it goes.

CJ Spiller isn't exactly a typical running back. And considering Williams is retiring next year and Brown is a RFA...
