Obviously, since Thomas' hands might not be his strongest assest, he would be able to contribute in other ways. Every RB has different strengths and weakness but almost any RB can contribute given the opportunity and situation.

I think reality reflects more the middle ground: You can plug and play anyone and expect only a minimal drop in production.

Actually, what I said was you can plug most of the backups into the starting roles and see a minimal drop in production, because the starters arent that much bettter than the backups.

My point is that its pretty sad when the two traits (all-purpose yards and receiving) that Jackson is superior than Peterson are areas in which he still is behind Peterson.

Teams are seeing that you need two good backs to be succesful so they are spending more picks/money on backups than ever thus upping the numbers

The system helps too ... Denver for example produced good backs on stats for years

lol at Slaton getting benched. Even though he came into this season way overrated (especially in fantasy football) he's the kind of RB that could do some real damage against Indy. Last year he averaged like 8 yards a carry and put up 250 yards in 2 games against them. Those little midget speedy RBs are kryptonite to Indy's D.

I don't understand why you and W2B keep repeating this. Its not the case at all. Thomas is a better runner, a vastly superior receiver, and scores at nearly a 6-to-1 rate when compared to Bell.

One guy has 54 receptions, the other has 2. One guy has 17 TDs, the other guy has 3. Yet this is the example you keep harping on?

Besides, Thomas can easily be replaced by Bush and Bell can easily be replaced by another RB. None of them are elite. You can plug and play another RB and the production might slightly decrease but will put up similar numbers given the opportunity and situation.

You keep combining 2008 & 2009, knowing full well Bell was buried on the bench in 2008 and never played.

I posted the numbers from 2009 (Bell's only substantial body of work as a Saint, and the only relevent information to the debate, because we are talking about guys stepping in in place of the starter), and you completely ignored them.

Thomas has less yards, one more TD, and 5 more receptions.

For the year:

Bell - 343 yards, 2 TD's, 85 ypg
Thomas - 314, 3 TD's, 63 ypg

Thomas played mimimally in one game while hurt, which drops his ypg, so that stat iosnt really fair, but please show me where you see this significant drop in production from Thomas to Bell. It isnt there.

Bell ran for 140+ and 80+ in his two starts.

And AGAIN, I agree Thomas is probably the better player, but the drop off is minimal in terms of production, when Bell starts.

I think the problem here, is senser sees Thomas as a much better player than I do. That's fine, but my point remains the same. No dropoff when Bell started. I think both of them a mediocre NFL RB's, fwiw.

If you think Thomas' numbers can't be easily replaced then you have a problem. Any ELITE RB can easily surpass his numbers and any decent RB can easily equal his numbers. The league is filled with decent RBs.
