Week 8 Random NFL Musings, and why NFL RB's are all the same

AAAAHHHH! They play on the same team!!! The situation is the same! :guns:

No, I don't mean situation like that. I mean the situation they are put in. For example: 4th and 1 is the situation and Bell is in... or its the end of the game (thats the situation) and Thomas is in... Each RB has had different opportunities and were put in different situations according to their strengths and weaknesses.

All I'm saying is that you can easily replace Thomas or Bell with any other decent RB. Don't you agree that most of the league is filled with decent RBs and that a decent RB can put up similar numbers?

Besides, Thomas can easily be replaced by Bush and Bell can easily be replaced by another RB. None of them are elite. You can plug and play another RB and the production might slightly decrease but will put up similar numbers given the opportunity and situation.

Those RBs are completely different!! You couldn't choose a more disparate collection of RBs. Bell gives you nothing in the passing game. Decent runner. Thomas is the best combo of runner/receiver and gives you yards inbetween the tackles. Bush is more explosive but isn't the heavy-duty runner.

OK...the Saints want a player from your team, and in return they say you can choose 1 RB from Bush, Thomas, Bell. Do you honestly think a GM would say "Give me whomever, they are all the same?" or, even worse, they would say "Give me Tatum, I mean Mike, Bell".

I posted the numbers from 2009 (Bell's only substantial body of work as a Saint, and the only relevent information to the debate, because we are talking about guys stepping in in place of the starter), and you completely ignored them.

The point, is what do the Saints lose with Bell instead of Thomas?

Based on Bell's starts this year, not a whole lot in terms of production. Sutuationally? Of course, but that was never my point, and I explained that several times already.

So, we only have two types of RBs...elite and non-elite. All non-elite RBs are the same. Thats why W2B can say Matt Forte is the same as Darren McFadden, and no one calls him on it. Thats why you can say Bell and Thomas are interchangeable even though Thomas is statistically superior in all areas (average, yards, TDs, receptions, etc.).

They have a similar amount of carrries, and Thomas has actually started more games, yet Bell's numbers are comparable.

Nobody called me on it, because that's not what I was doing. I was just throwing random starters out there in that particular post, to show that I was talking about guys other that your Peterson's of the world.

...and for the record, I thought you were trying to say McFadden was better than Forte, which is why I accused you of burying Forte twice in the same thread.

You cant use Bell's garbage time stats from 2008 in this. Bell stepping in for Thomas in 2009 is all that matters in this debate, because that's what we are talking about--guys stepping in for starters with little drop off.

Pretty awesome, isn't it? How your crock of shit theory that all non-elite RBs are interchangeable was emphatically proven wrong mere hours later?

Thomas: 14-91-6.5-1 TD, 2 receptions for an additional TD
Bell: 17-49-2.9-0, 0 receptions

So its basically how I described it...Thomas is superior by any measure...yards, TDs, average, you name it, Thomas is better. And notice how once again Bell was a non-factor in the passing game.


Lemme guess...after basing your entire theory on one Mike Bell 143-yard game, you are now going to say "Its only one game..."
