If lovie sits his starters and loses after the bye, he is blamed for sitting starters and losing his momentum. if he plays them and he wins, and his team loses the first game after the bye, he gets criticised for not giving his guys enough rest. if he sits the starters and he wins and the giants get in instead, then the giants wind up going into chicago and beating them, he gets criticised for breathing life into NY.

There is almost no way Lovie doesn't take criticism if he loses to a lower-seeded team after the bye. That is independent of everything.
If Lovie wants to give his starters some time, then he can play them for the 1st half against GB and then sit them. Leaving Cutler in for the duration of the game while witnessing sack after sack after sack was inexcusable for Lovie.
If Lovie plays his starters in a meaningless game and someone like Cutler, Urlacher, or Peppers gets hurt, then Lovie is a complete fool.
