Not to step on Rob's toes here... but I don't think he was saying that Gretzky has been eclipsed. Just that you can no longer say that he is "far and away" the best ever, as if no else could possibly even be included in the topic of conversation.

Personally, I would say Lemiuex belongs in the argument at this point more than Crosby or Ovechkin, but I guess its debatable.

you could argue guys like Gordie Howe, Mario, Mark Messier, etc.. and what about Goalies? Roy, etc...

Maybe not far and away, but as of now Crosby and Ovechkin obviously can't be debated because they are still in the league and Lemiuex is out of the league and most don't really consider him the all-time top so it's not like something is going to magically happen to get him to Number 1.

That's like saying you aren't sure if Michael Jordan or Gale Sayers is the greatest athlete in Chicago history. One was great for his time but the other is considered largely as the greatest to ever play his sport.
