Bret Hart is an athlete. He did participate in an actual competitive sport, but he's an athlete nonetheless. And I can't say wrestling is not a competitive sport (i don't like wrestling mind you) even though it's planned, the average joe just can't pick up wrestling and be good at it (like an idiot who wants to be a stuntman can just decide to jump off buildings one day, see Jackass). It takes years and years of training and even then nothing is guaranteed.

Bret was a very good, not great, amatuer wrestler at the high school level. His dad was a legit shooter in his day, so had Bret been born 15 or 20 years later, he's the kind of guy who probably would have went into MMA and not pro wrestling.

GSP > Fedor.. the way he dominates guys is unparalleled.. I think he solidified the #1 spot on Saturday night. If Fedor really works Barnett then we'll see from there. GSP's ability to dudes down right now is just nuts.. he may not be finishing fights, but hes pretty much dominating them for 5 rounds and not in boring fashion either.

Errrrr on topic.. if GSP continues to dominate and if he does it at MW too, for 5+ years.. he may indeed go down as the greatest fighter of all time.. nevermind Canadian athlete.

You can't count pro wrestlers for this kind of award (putting my Iron Mike Sharpe joke aside).
Pro wrestlers may be great athletes, but at the end of the day, they're scripted performers.
They are not in an actual athletic competition.
I always thought Bret Hart was overrated as a pro wrestler anyway. His biggest fan was Bret Hart. He was a big star in a down time for the WWE.

First off, my answer is Wayne Gretzky...he is the Michael Jordan of Canada.

Pro Wrestlers are definitely athletes. What they do is not a sport, but to not call them athletes is a grave injustice to the amount of physical activity they do.

C'mon...I love me some wrestling, and while I can see the rationale for wrestlers being "athletes"...they have no real accomplishments. They are awarded and given prestige based on a story.

GSP, Great One...those guys can be quantified.

Bret Hart? What has he ever done that can be legitimately quantified? He's never really "beaten" anyone...he was just scripted to beat someone.

Wrestling is a hybrid between sport and soap operas. Claiming Bret Hart has "athletic accomplishments" is like saying Jack Bauer has a legitimate kill/body count.
