Hockey definitely a tougher sport than basketball. Id like to see the NBA slap on some skates and see if they could even stand up, let alone attempt a shot, lol. On the other hand, put the NHL on the court and i bet most of them can play.

I never said the NBA took more skill or was a tougher sport. Where'd you read that?

I said it takes way more physical gifts or pure athleticism to play in the NBA. You have to have unbelievable height, unbelievable jumping ability, speed, etc. to play in the NBA.

You obviously need more skill in the NHL. I stated that a bunch of times already, most of the time though if you saw an NHL player walking down the street he wouldn't look much different then you or me. Obviously probably in better shape, but most hockey players happen to be regular Joe's that have a tremendous amount of skill at their particular sport.

It's hard not to notice someone who plays basketball at a high level because a lot of it requires physical gifts and unmatched athleticism. That was my only point. NHL guys obviously have more skill involved in their game, but to play elite level basketball you have to be a very special athlete.

And to your trolled thing... I don't know... at first I thought he was kinda joking but apparently he's pretty serious about it, as is Hogle and a few other guys.

that doesn't matter, to this point, he has the better career, at the end of GSP's career, that likely will not be the case. This isn't who has the greatest career/accomplishments, it's who is the greatest athlete, which although i see what you're thinking, can be directly translated to who is the best athlete. This is a debate of athleticism, and accomplishments and careers, are no factor in athleticism

Then it should be who is the better athlete because when you phrase it in greatest Canadian athlete and you get two guys from entirely different sports one of which cannot be described as a player... you're forced to use the term athlete.

If it's a debate of athleticism then of course it's GSP.

But again if someone walked up to you on the street and asked:
Who is the greatest American athlete between Vick and Montana? and you answered Vick, they'd probably look at you like you were an idiot because in that sense and phrasing the question absolutely means accomplishments and careers.

If they said who is the better athlete between Vick and Montana? It'd obviously be Vick.

no no no, I already said i understand what you're saying because the word greatest would mean all time, who has more to show for it, but because athlete comes at the end, you can't be judging it based on accomplishments, because that has nothing to do with being an athlete or athleticism. And to add to that, when GSP's career is over, there's a very good chance that he will be "greater" anyways

ya okay, i don't know who Gretzky is. The fact is, when Gretzky played the goalies were piles of shit, so he filled the stat sheet every game, if it were today, I guarantee he wouldn't be putting points up like that. GSP won Canadian athlete of the year, he's one of the best p4p fighters right now, and who knows, in time, he might even hold two championship belts maybe very good chance wasn't the right way of putting it, since MMA, still isn't really a big sport to most, and there's nowhere near as many titles and awards to win as in hockey, but he's helping put an up and coming sport on the map, especially in Canada, and he'll be right up there

The only problem with this is that, you'd think it'd be easy for everyone to score like Gretz. In 85-86, when he put up 215 pts, that was 74 points higher than the next player. Yes, scoring was obscene in those days, but he did it on an plane unlike anyone (save Lemiuex) could reach

In 83-84, he was nearly 90 points ahead
84-85, he was 75 pts ahead
81-82 it was a 65 pt differential

Gretzky was blessed with unparralled vision, and the good fortune to be on a team that could finish the chances he created. Yeah, the shit goalies helped, but if he played now he would still be leading the league in points. Just wouldn't be getting 200+
