that was the most epically disappointing shit I've ever sat through.

1500m long track - men

both of the top 10 in the world Canadians, don't even make the top 10

1500m short track - women

3 in the semis, 1 advance. in the semi 1 of them falls in her race and gives up. only to see 3 people fall on the next lap and waste that opportunity for the easy advance.

1000m short track - men

2 in the final (of just 5..), 1/2 until 3 laps to go...finish 4/5

bobsled 2 man

3rd/7th after the first run. 3rd place team crashes on their heads on run 2, they are done. 7th place team moves to 6th with an outside shot at 3rd going into tomorrow....provided they are perfect.



earlier today

womens freestyle aerials

lone canadian 3rd best jump on the first run. tries an easier jump on the 2nd one to ensure qualification....3rd worst on the 2nd run, doesn't qualify.




it's great that they are in the olympics and great that they are top athletes on their respective world circuits, but the pressure has eaten alive the majority of the canadian team. so many narrowly missed podiums and missed opportunities, it's incredible to see it in almost every event.

the fin/swe game still goes tonight, which determines their group winner and who is the top seed.

Unless Sweden wins by 5+ goals, then they would take #2 Seed.

If Finland wins the game in regulation they are the #1 Seed and USA would be #2. If they win in OT/SO they are #2 and USA is #1.


#1 seed plays the winner of Switzerland/Belarus, the #2 seed plays the winner of Slovakia/Norway.

Russia is the #3 Seed and gets the winner of Canada/Germany.

Man I know I would be embarrassed if my country just lost in the Olympics in a sport we invented. Think the United States losing to Canada in basketball. The players would be shunned forever as losers.

Hockey wasn't invented by a Canadian.

Then again, the skill difference between the teams really isn't that far a part and the American Goalie Ryan Miller is easily the top goalie in the NHL right now.

Comparing Canada/U.S. in basketball and hockey are not the same thing.

The top six teams in the Olympics are all capable of gold in men's hockey.

It really boils down to who has the hottest goalie.

Hell, look at Switzerland - on paper, they should be getting blown out, but they're competitive because of their goaltending.

This tourney is far from over - and frankly I think Canada needs the extra game to build some better team play.

As someone who knows something about hockey, it really bugs me when I hear people refer to Team Canada as the hockey dream team.
That's ridiculous.
The Russians, on paper, are as good or better than we are.
The Americans aren't at our level on paper, but have Miller - the world's best goalie.
The Swedes are a first-class team, the Finns always competitive, the Czech Republic a real threat.

There are no dream teams in hockey. There have always been two elite teams at the Olympic tourney since the pros began.

Her partner has to be gay, because there's no way any red-blooded heterosexual male could ever focus with her as a partner.

There was a brother/sister team that reminded me of Steeljake and his wife, only thinner and brighter.
