Sure, it could have. But it probably wouldn't have. Not tonight. The Giants were all over Verlander. They embarrassed him out there from the get go.

The Giants are getting bounces but they play with a different attitude. They have a ton of mojo right now and it's showing in every aspect - defense, pitching, and hitting. They are the ones making all the plays and it's led to a huge confidence and momentum boost. That's why they've won the last 4 games in a row.

I think people want to compare this team to the 2010 team so badly and fail to really notice just how good this Giants team is. The pitching is just as strong, if not stronger. More capable bats and a much better defense because of Crawford, Belt, Blanco, and Pagan.

By the way, I fucking hate Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Not only were they obviously biased towards the Cards in the last series, but they act like they know everything about baseball. I wish they would get some younger guys in the booth at some point.

Why is Delmon Young allowed to play a defensive position? The guy is terrible. He moves as if his body has been wracked with too much steroid use.

Why is Delmon Young allowed to play a defensive position? The guy is terrible. He moves as if his body has been wracked with too much steroid use.

Young only played about 35 games in the outfield in the regular season. Can't DH amd he looked awful last night, that throw to home was hilarious.

Another note - Pablo and Zito were both benched in the 2010 world works series.

I have a theory that since SABR people can't really measure defense accurately and/or they devalue defense in favor of offensive stats, that teams are placing too much emphasis on offensive performance and leaving bad defensive players in the lineup because they can't statistically perceive their ineffectiveness.

As the total number of strikeouts increases each year, defense becomes less valuable because there are less plays in each game that the defense can influence the outcome. Do teams don't focus on fielding as much.

Look at the past few WS series winners, there have been some terrible defensive teams, such as 2009 Yankees.

But how much can strikeouts actually increase to thus make defense "less valuable"? Are strikeouts making up 4 or 5 more outs per game? I doubt it.

The Yankees should be an outlier, because even if they are bad on defense, they make up for it with hitting, pitching and a $350 million payroll.

The league-average strikeout rate was at 20% this year, which is an all-time high.

What's crazy is how bad the Giants defense was early on in the year. They were on pace to break the record for errors at one point and led the league by a wide margin.

I expect Fister to do well tonight, the Giants have trouble against big righties so I won't be surprised if te bats go cold tonight but the Giants have a mug better bullpen and D so I still think the Giants win in 6.

Giants pitchers were dominant. We gave our pitchers nothing. Gotta win at the very least 2 of 3 at home.

I was at the game. Giants fans are classier than A's fans. Went to that series too in Oakland. I'm a Tigers fan, but I don't mind the Giants, at least they aren't from Chicago.
