How about this: they are constructing this monument, and want it represented by the four biggest icons in company history. Who are the four faces of the WWE?

Does anyone disagree with the first three? I would think those three are universal and beyond dispute.

Bruno is the only mild dispute, and not because he's not a legend, but because there is a convenient line of 1979 which divides the WWWF era and the WWF/E era...all the same company, but a convenient old era-new era shift coupled with a name shift. Only my opinion, sure.

Andre, Hogan, Austin, Rock...four biggest icons.

Even old ladies know who these guys are.

I think it has to be Vince McMahon. I would replace Steve Austin with Andre the Giant. I think everyone knows who Andre the Giant is/was...I think only wrestling fans know Steve Austin.

I would probably for the same reasons Larry mentioned take Bruno out and yeah I could see McMahon, I think I missed him on the original list.

Vince was Austin's Roddy Piper...even though he's the owner of the company, he still takes a back seat to Austin.

I suppose the biggest name I left off would be Bob Backlund, but I doubt anyone is including him.

Although I guess you can make a case for Bruno, Backlund, Hogan, Austin.

Clear. The three biggest drawing cards ever in WWE. In 2008, Meltzer had the all-time WWF draws as 1. Bruno, 2. Hogan, 3. Backlund, 4. Rocca and 7. Austin (Stone Cold had a shorter window, but he was such an amazing draw).

You could give the 4th spot to Taker or Hunter. Both have had the longevity and are up there in terms of all-time draws but it's sort of a catch 22 since they've been around for decades.

Depends on what you use to come up with the list. If it's overall popularity plus consideration for popularity outside the wrestling bubble, it would come down to Andre or The Rock.

The Rock was a much bigger draw than Andre in terms of numbers but I guess it isn't too fair since they were in such different periods in history.

I wouldn't put Vince in because I'm considering this list to be amongst wrestlers. Now if we're talking about guys who influenced/impacted the business more than others....I'd imagine the list would look like Vince, Gorgeous George, Hulk Hogan and ?????

All things considered, I'd put Rock in that last spot despite his small window as a full-time guy (96-03 or 04).
