A 30x difference? The average game developer makes $84,000 in the United States. I highly doubt guys working for CD Projekt Red are only making $2800/year.

Edit: Yes, I know developer salaries aren't the only cost associated with game development. I still do not see why games need to cost $300 million.

$300 million may be a bit of a stretch, but many companies are saying that "_________________ needs to sell 5 million copies to break even." That equates to budgets of at least $100 million. Examples: Dead Space 3. Tomb Raider. That, simply put, is unsustainable.

If I remember correctly companies are not saying they need it to sell this much to break even. They are Posting Sales Targets and the games that dont meet that target are deemed failures. They never said the games werent profitable. IMO the Sales targets were just way off.

All in all yes companies need to tighten the budget a bit on these games some how.

Despite being about halfway through The Last of Us and 3/4 through Remember Me I am still oddly drawn to playing my latest purchase: Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen for the PS1. Holy balls is that game great. Old as shit and the cutscenes are fucking amazingly bad, but the game itself and the story and dialogue are still top notch. A little clunky, but I find that to be part of its charm.

Remember when Silicon Knights made good games?

                cool art project

Hi, my name is David Surman. I’m a designer and co-director of Pachinko Pictures. I was invited by my good friend Christian McCrea to teach a class on Design for the students of the Bachelor of Design (Games) at RMIT. The theme of the class was “What is a designer?”, and for this assignment we looked at different ways to communicate the theme and values of Journey by thatgamecompany. Students were asked to look at the game and develop a PS3 sleeve design that communicated a new perspective on the Journey world. I hope you enjoy the great work they created. communicatingjourney.tumblr.com

I've had some bad luck with my consoles frezzing since coming back. First I was downloading all the free PS+ shit. I went to download Uncharted 3 (yes, I have the disc but booting a game without swapping discs is so convenient ;) and I have ample hdd space). Well, I immediately LOL at the 40gb file size. As PS3 owners know, the larger the file the longer the "Preparing to download" screen takes. Well, after ten minutes it finally starts downloading and I see the first file is the French language pack. Like I give a fuck about. The shit is almost a gig to boot. So I select "Download in background" and that is taking forever until my console ultimately hard locks. I had to actually unplug it thanks to the slim consoles no longer having a dedicated rear on/off switch. Of course I then get that "The console was not properly shut down properly last time" message and have to wait for a system restore. Ugh. I always hold my breath with those and wonder how much shit is getting corrupted.

Then today I go to download Fable 3 for free on Xbox. I then turn off the console and let It do the background download. About an hour later I read about Close Quarters being free so I turn the Xbox back on and pop in the Battlefield disc. Of course the game starts booting as soon as the disc tray closes. Well, because it takes the Xbox about two minutes to boot up and log me into Live (man I love that spinning circle)it's as if the console doesn't know what to do first. The screen just stays black for a few minutes. I'm able to pull up the guide button and see I'm still not signed into Live. I hit Y go go back to the dash and...freeze. When I eventually get it back up and running and get CQ downloading I turn the console off again. It sounds like a damn jet engine like the old launch consoles. This is on a slim Gears of War console by the way.

I am not sure these consoles were originally designed for such heavy activities. PLus they are fucking 7-8 years old. I am not surprised these things are crapping out. My xbox is finally slowing down due to me downloading too much stuff. Fuck these consoles.

There is no way an 7-8 year PC would be working fine without upgrading...I cant expect these things to be working fast.

I agree but PS3 is only about two years old and the 360 about the same. They both have ample hdd space with the ps3 having much more obviously after installing a 1TB drive. Yes I know they are still running the same 7-8 year operating systems. Speaking of that, the 360 OS is laughable. Taking 2+ minutes to boot to the dashboard is a fucking joke.

Agreed. Ever since they updated to that Windows 8 clone, it's taken much longer to get up and running. I miss the days of my 360 dashboard booting up within a few seconds.
