Pac-Man is so, so good. My goal before I die is to buy the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga machine from the pizza shop near where I grew up.

Not only has Pac-Man stood the test of time, its two new games are two of the best games on XBLA.

          Mega Man X

          Platform: Plenty

Far and beyond my favorite Mega Man game ever. Mega Man is known for its humbling difficulty and differing bosses and stages. A franchise that has been around just as long as Marion, Zelda and many others but it took till it made its debut on the Super Nintendo to debut the almost perfect game.

Technically Mega Man X is a spin off of the original Mega Man series but it still feels plays and looks like a Mega Man game. Mega Man X did add new abilities like wall jumping and sliding. Those abilities might sound pretty unsubstantial but they made the game a lot easier and if you’ve ever played Mega Man on the NES you’ll understand how fucking hard those games really were. There was another character in MMX named Zero but fuck him, he looks like a girl. Anyway the main villain of this game was a bald dude named Sigma who pretty much pissed me off to no end. First when you fight him he brings out his purple dog and then when you kill the dog he comes at you with a green lightsaber. Then you beat him like that and his head falls off. Normally you’d think you’re done but no, his head floats off into this giant cat transformer looking thing and you have to fight him again. Probably one of the most frustrating boss battles in history. Those are the kind of boss battles old school gamers like I am used to. We don’t see many of those anymore outside of God of War. Outside of the final boss battle most of the stage boss’s are relatively easy if you have the right power ups to beat them. The level’s they aren’t too difficult, some contain mini bosses and a hell of a lot of jumping and dodging attacks and crevices.

All in all Mega Man X was a revolutionary game for the Mega Man series. It can be downloaded from the Virtual Console, IOS and Android marketplace. As always watch the video below for more insight on the game.

            MLB The Show 10

            Platform: PS3 & PSP

Ah baseball, my favorite past time. MLB The Show 10 recreates the real feel of baseball. From the looks on the player’s faces down to the beach balls flying around in the stands and landing on the field. MLB The Show 10 had it all and then some.

To be perfectly honest, MLB The Show was a system seller for me. I never really wanted to buy a ps3 until I started hearing all the good buzz about MLB The Show so I splurged and got a PS3. The first Show I had was the one with Ryan Howard on the cover and boy was I hooked. A couple years pass and I pick up MLB The Show 10. Damn, I was literally blown away by how awesome this game was. Admittedly I had a lot of spectacular iterations of The Show to choose from but this version was far and far the best. The addition of home run derby during season mode, the futures game, new catcher interface for RTTS and many, many more is what kept this game fresh and could teach those guys at EA Sports what’s up. This was the first version of the show I enjoyed the Online as well. I specifically remember Miggy telling me I couldn’t beat him in The Golden Sombrero and I did in a convincing fashion forcing him to Rage Quit the who league. They were great times. But it wasn’t just the additional modes and the improved online play, it was the new animations and gameplay that really kept me playing. When Roy Halladay stood at the mound it felt like Roy Halladay was really out there. When Prince Fielder blasted a big fly it looked like he actually hit a home run and was excited about it. SCEA really took the time to make an authentic MLB experience. MLB The Show 10 in my honest opinion is the crowing jewel among this series and will have to bounce back from MLB 11 to make a better MLB 12.

This may be a shorter than expected review but anyone who has played this will agree with me. MLB The Show is the best baseball game to date. I know back in the ps2 and psx days they had great baseball games but come on… MLB The Show 10 shits all over them.

I realized by the time I got to Donkey Kong that I might run out of material to write about when I get to Pacman. I don’t know if that’s still true cause as I write this list I go with the flow and just let myself go. Pacman is arguably the greatest game of all time, I don’t seem to think it’s the greatest but it is worthy of a top 100 spot.

                  Gears of War

                  Platform: Xbox 360

Watch out mother fuckers cause the Cole Train is coming through. Never in my life did I think I would ever like a straight forward, balls to the wall shooter. No muss, no fuss just kill locust and progress through the story. I really think it was because of the chainsaw on my gun that made this game so appealing to me.

Gears of War is not a ground breaking game by any means. Gears is just a damn fun game from start to finish and all the way up through multiplayer. The beauty of Gears is the fact that it plays like a first person shooter but is in the third person perspective. Cover is probably the biggest “gimmick” of this game. I say “gimmick” because it is more than just a gimmick. It will save your fucking life. Gears has a story mode but it isn’t exactly the most compelling one. Stop the locust invasion, kill General RAAM so you can safely use the energy of the planet that I forgot the name of. Sure its fun to play through the story mode by yourself but it kind of gets boring after a while. That’s where Epic Games went above and beyond the Call of Duty (no pun intended). Gears has co-op so if you have a friend who wants to help you smash the locust into submission on your way to completing the game, you can do that and believe me it is some of the most fun I’ve had cooperatively in a game, EVER. This would be enough to make a great game but once again Gears did us one better and gave us some of the most fun multiplayer ever. I’ll be the first to admit, I was very underwhelmed by Gears’ multiplayer. Maps aren’t particularly big and not a very large variety of weapons but its still fun. What other multiplayer game can you curb stomp a dying enemy to put him down for good? What other multiplayer game can u saw somebody’s torso in half? I’m waiting. That’s right, you can’t in any other game.

Unfortunately I don’t think after Battlefield and Call of Duty, I could ever go back to playing multiplayer in Gears. Horde mode in 2 and 3, yes but Gears 1, no. It’s still a damn fun game just can’t go back to it. I did spend a hell of a lot of time with this game when it came out though. As always watch the video below.

Gears of War wasn't necessarily groundbreaking, but it was a game of perfection. It didn't necessarily introduce the cover mechanic, but they perfected it from the start and they proved it can be used in a shooter to great effect. There have been many games since then that have utilized the cover mechanic since then, because of how successful it was with Gears.

I could care less for multiplayer, I just enjoyed the story, chainsawing every being in sight and gun battles.

                            Saints Row 2

                            Platforms: Xbox 360. PS3. PC

SIXTY NINE DUDE! (sorry bad Bill and Ted Impression). Anyway, I don’t see a game more fitting of being the sixty ninth best game on my list than Saints Row 2. But enough of this lame intro because I could talk about this game for literally hours on end.

Saints Row 2 takes over where Saints Row left off. Without spoiling too much you are in Stilwater Penitentiary after nearly being killed on the…. nevermind I don’t want to spoil the ending of the first Saints Row. Basically what you have to do in Saints Row 2 after u escape prison is to rebuild the strength of the Third Street Saints. The Ultor Company is pretty much the antagonist of the game, as a collective unit. There are gangs smattered across the city that you have to defeat and take over their hoods again but Ultor is your main villain. Besides the crazy over the top story there are side missions that are even crazier. Septic Avenger is one that comes to mind. You basically drive around in a sanitation truck and blast shit all over buildings to either piss off the owners or get back at the gangs. Not that Septic Avenger is enough but Snatch, Escort, Mayhem, Insurance fraud are just a handful of activities that will keep you busy. You’ll literally spend 30-50 hours trying to complete this game. BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE! You can also play the story cooperatively via Xbox Live or local. The latter I’m not to sure about because I never tried. Co-op story mode is awesome, especially when you are getting tailed by rival gangs and need a gun man while you’re driving. Finally online play is fucking amazing. You can customize your character and take him to the streets and play against friends or random people in zany modes like Gangster Brawl and Voilition’s take on Team Deathmatch. Seriously though this is one of the most fun you’ll have online in a game not called Madden or Call of Duty.

Most people will scoff and blow this game off as a Grand Theft Auto clone but this is not what it is trying to do. Saints Row is taking the less serious, gritty route that GTA always takes. Saints Row is a breath of fresh air as far as these sandbox games are concerned and it would be an epic tragedy if you missed out on the game.

                              Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

                              Platforms: PS2/Xbox/PC/Mac

Believe me I didn’t plan to have two similar games like this back to back it just happened that way. I might catch a lot of shit for this being so low on the top 100 but I’ll explain to you why I chose to have it at 68 momentarily.

Just like anyone who played a PS2, they were excited to play San Andreas as we all eagerly awaiting it to release. The first time I played it I was blown away. The game was huge, spanning 3 cities and seemingly endless country side. I’ll admit, the game has a great story, lots of activities and plenty to explore. Voice overs were some of the best including people like Samuel L Jackson, Faizon Love, Chris Penn (RIP), and my personal favorite James Woods. The game always had a very Boyz in the hood feel to me and since I’m a huge fan of the movie it made the game feel all that better. Rockstar did a damn good job at making the setting feel like early 90’s California and Las Vegas. It was towards the end of the console cycle so they graphics were as good as they were gonna get so I can’t complain in that department. It may seem like this game should be higher the way I’m praising it but San Andreas has a huge downfall. The gameplay feels like more of the same. If I had to play any of the Grand Theft Auto’s today San Andreas would be last on my list other than the OLD GTA games. Sorry to disappoint anyone but San Andreas felt really stale after a while to me and wasn’t giving me a reason to care about playing it anymore. After I was done with the story I had no reason to want to play the game anymore. Rinse, Dry, Repeat may work for some gamers but repetition really hurts my passion to play a game. But to be fair, Rockstar did a damn good job at marketing a game and telling a story. The game is huge and they deserve a lot of credit for making this game and making it very successful. I didn’t really touch on the “RPG” elements of eating and staying in shape because that drove me nuts.

I’m sure most gamers who had an Xbox or a PS2 played this game for a large chunk of hours and can somewhat agree with my feelings about this game. As for the select few who haven’t, just watch the video below.
