I think it's more of the fact that Illinois sucks than the fact that my defense was outstanding. But thanks anyway. Yea, I'm pretty disappointed Drew Gray went down. I thought I would finally go the entire year without any major injuries, and then he goes down. But I'll bounce back.

Ohio State Beats Penn State, Raises Indiana's Chances for Rose Bowl Birth

University Park, PA - The game of the week for Week 9 pitted the #6 Penn State Nittany Lions and the #5 Ohio State Buckeyes. Since both teams had one loss within the Big 10, the loser would fall to 5th in the conference--and probably would lose their chance at a Rose Bowl Birth. As it turned out, the Ohio State Buckeyes dominated from start to finish, winning 41-14.

The loss, Penn State's second in the conference, gave Indiana a better shot at winning the Big 10 (and playing in the Rose Bowl). The Hoosiers are undefeated in the Big 10 including a victory over the Buckeyes, 19-14. If the Hoosiers can win three of their last four conference games (they play Northwestern, Michigan State, Penn State, and Purdue), they will win the Big 10. Northwestern is winless in the Big 10, Purdue is .500 in conference play, and the Michigan State Spartans are 1-2. Indiana should easily win all of those games. "If we continue playing the way we have been, we'll win the Big 10 easily," said starting quarterback Jammone Chester, who hasn't thrown an interception the past 3 games. "As of late, there is no team in the country that we can't beat. We're awesome."

Their only expected challenge, a road game against the #11 Penn State Nittany Lions, will be a game that comes down to the wire. Even though Penn State is sliding down the national polls, they are still a formidable opponent. "We have always had trouble against Penn State," said head coach Anthony Thompson. "This will prove to us that we can play with the big boys."

After their Big 10 season is done, they will face a strong Arizona Wildcats team (they are 14th in the country as of today). The game will be a fun game to watch, but it will not be crucial to the outcome of the Hoosiers season because Indiana's not going to the National Championship game.

Indiana's Starting Center Found Dead in Apartment, Possible Homicide

(AP) - Indiana's injured starting center, Will Matte, was found dead in his apartment complex yesterday due to multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

Matte, who has had many off-field troubles throughout this year, broke his arm earlier this season and was going to sit out the rest of the Hoosiers' games. "He was our best offensive lineman," said Anthony Thompson, "but he worried me because of all his personal problems. When he had the injury to his arm, I didn't have any choice but to bench him for the remainder of the year."

Will Matte caused a serious car accident earlier this year and ended up killing a person who was involved. He was charged with a DWI and 1st degree manslaughter, but for some reason was not cut from the team. "He was truly sorry," said Athletic Director Fred Glass. "I knew I should have removed him from the football team, possibly even expelled him, but I just couldn't do it. He was one of the nicest people you will ever meet, even if he had many personal issues." Maybe if he had been cut, all of this would have been avoided.

The only current evidence is that there are three holes in his skull that could only have been made by bullets. But somehow, the bullets were removed from Matte's head before police arrived on the scene. "My guess would be that he committed suicide and that the bullets went straight through his head and into the floor, but nothing's for sure yet," said Dr. Jamison Alexander, who was present on the scene all last night searching for evidence, "but there is an almost equal chance that he could have been murdered. Without a weapon or any suspects, we can't conclude anything."

Keep 'em Coming, Boys: Indiana Lands Another Recruit

Bloomington, IN - Anthony Thompson and the Indiana Hoosiers have done a fantastic job recruiting over the past few years, and Thompson added to his legacy by persuading another person this year to play for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Evan Turner, a 4-star defensive tackle from Nashville, Indiana (and a recruit that I created during the off-season), is one of the most dominant run-stopping defensive tackles in the nation. Weighing in at 310 pounds, he is the dominating force up the middle. Last year, his high school faced the top running back in the nation, Drew Hanson, and the Oklahoma City High Tigercats in a national tournament. Drew was held to 18 rushing yards on 25 carries. Over half of those tackles were from Turner. "I feel that he can be a vital part of our defensive front," said Defensive Line coach James Tannenbaum. "If he keeps up his great high school stats in college, he could be heading off to the NFL by his Junior year."

At this point, you may be asking yourself, "Why is he a 4 star player if he's that good?" Well, my friends, he can't get any pressure on the quarterback. He didn't get one sack his entire high school career. "He's a fatass," said Anthony Thompson yesterday, "but that's why he's so good at stopping the run. He takes up at least 5 yards of space. If I can get him into tip-top shape, he could be a force in the run AND the pass game."

The commitment of Turner moves Indiana's total number of recruits to eight, which is the second highest total in the NCAA.

You're doing great recruiting. Your defense looks beast in the future and Nick Morgan plus Jarrell Lemon (if you sign him) could be amazing.

Nate Morgan ;P. He'll be a beast. This is kind of looking ahead (and I shouldn't be doing this) but Jarrell signed with Texas. At least I moved up to second in his opinion though.
