Game 14, Year 1: Cincinnati Bengals (0-13) at San Diego Chargers (8-5)

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' December 20th game at San Diego. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

    20 -- 0-14
    31 -- 9-5

Summary: The Cincinnati Bengals allowed a 17-0 fourth quarter run by San Diego on their way to falling to the Chargers 31-20 on the road. After amassing a 20-14 lead following former Charger FB Jacob Hester's second touchdown of the game, things were looking up for the Bengals. However a missed fourth quarter 52-yard field goal by Bengals PK Shayne Graham, which was preceded by a holding call on a made 42-yarder, would be the turning the point that the Chargers were looking for.

TE Antonio Gates' 13-yard touchdown reception with 7:15 remaining gave San Diego a 21-20 lead. After forcing a Bengals' three and out, FB Mike Tolbert busted loose for a 63-yard touchdown reception down the seam to make the score 28-20.

Following QB Carson Palmer's interception thrown to FS Eric Weddle on a desperation third down heave, the Chargers drove down the field to kick a 55-yard Nate Kaeding field goal to put the game away. Palmer finished the game 27 of 42 for 288 yards.

Cincinnati (0-14) will host Kansas City (5-9) next week in their home finale. The Chiefs will be without starting QB Matt Cassel (66 overall), who has missed the last 8 weeks of action due to a broken collar bone suffered in the team's week six loss to Washington. QB Tyler Thigpen (66 overall) has since taken over for Cassel and will start against the Bengals.

Another tough loss man. The fourth quater swoon seems to be a trend at the AM level. Mistakes and miscues run wild during that time. Hopefully you can take advantage of Cassel being out and maybe snag a victory over the Chiefs.

Nothing like a fullback busting loose for a 63-yard touchdown reception...ugh...

That 63-yarder was a back-breaker. It was a third down and short play and they caught us in a run-blitz. It was deflating.

I am definitely going to have to step my game up in the fourth quarter. I seem to just crack under pressure. I don't think the AI "cheats" late in the game, rather they just turn it up a notch. I need to figure out how to match that.

I haven't advanced far enough to answer this question in whole. The trade logic is a little screwy. You can still rip-off the CPU.

I could have totally screwed the CPU over with my earlier Coles trade if I wanted to.

Game 15, Year 1: Kansas City Chiefs (5-9) at Cincinnati Bengals (0-14)

              21 -- 5-10
              27 -- 1-14 F/OT

Bengals RB Cedric Benson follows the lead blocks of FB Jacob Hester and TE Chase Coffman on his way to a game-winning 64-yard touchdown in overtime to give Cincinnati it's first win of the season, 27-21.

BENSON'S 64-YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN GIVES BENGALS EMPHATIC 27-21 OVERTIME VICTORY

QB Carson Palmer's touchdown pass to TE Chase Coffman with :17 remaining in regulation sets up overtime thriller | Benson's late two point conversion reception, 234 all-purpose yards pace Bengals to first victory of 2009 season

The Cincinnati Bengals avoided becoming just the second team in NFL history to go 0-16, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 27-21 triumphantly in overtime. Bengals RB Cedric Benson's 64-yard touchdown scamper on the third play of the extra period put an exclamation point on a career-day for the fourth year veteran out of Texas. Benson finished the game with 152 rushing yards on the day and also contributed as a pass-catcher, grabbing 9 receptions for 82 yards.

The game was forced into overtime when Bengals QB Carson Palmer led a 9-play 78-yard drive with under two minutes remaining which included a 4th down and 11 conversion to TE Chase Coffman down the seam early in the drive. Several plays later, Palmer found Coffman open on a short out route on the left sideline in which the rookie turned up field, juked a defender and went 25 yards for a touchdown which made the score 21-19 with 0:17 to go. On the ensuing two-point play, Palmer found Benson wide open in the end zone to tie the game and send it to the thrilling extra session.

"This one was for coach (Marvin) Lewis," said Benson after his career-long 64-yard score.

"He gave me an opportunity here last year when no one else did and this is my gift to him. I don't know what the future holds with him but this was his pay back from Cedric Benson."

Cincinnati (1-14) will travel to face the New York Jets (5-10) next week in what will be both team's season finales.

Notes: Cincinnati WR Chad Ochocinco left the game in the first quarter with a fractured elbow. The injury will prevent him for playing next week, effectively ending his 2009 season. He injured himself after being tackled on a 14-yard reception early in the game and finishes the year with 64 receptions for 925 yards and four touchdowns...The Bengals dominated Kansas City in time of possession, holding onto the ball for a total of 47 minutes and 30 seconds in the game compared to the Chief's 14 minutes and 51 seconds. The Bengals also ran a total of 86 plays while the Chiefs only ran 44.

                      Thanks fellas -

Needless to say, I was in utter dis-belief once Benson got into the open field and was just hoping that no flag got thrown. What a thrilling first win. Probably one of my most enjoyable wins ever given the circumstances.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Nice day by everyone involved. London continued to play well, Benson stepped up and Palmer had a good day too. Must be some relief getting that monkey off your back.

Looking forward to see if you can make it two in a row.

Congrats on finishing the season on a high note. Good to see that things are coming together for you. Looks like you may have to upgrade the backup quarterback position. Palmer looks to be a little fragile.

Good to see Bernard Scott comeback and finish the season with a solid performance coming off injury. Glad the first season is over and looking forward to what takes place in the off-season!
