Game 14, Year 1: Cincinnati Bengals (0-13) at San Diego Chargers (8-5)
20 -- 0-14
31 -- 9-5
Summary: The Cincinnati Bengals allowed a 17-0 fourth quarter run by San Diego on their way to falling to the Chargers 31-20 on the road. After amassing a 20-14 lead following former Charger FB Jacob Hester's second touchdown of the game, things were looking up for the Bengals. However a missed fourth quarter 52-yard field goal by Bengals PK Shayne Graham, which was preceded by a holding call on a made 42-yarder, would be the turning the point that the Chargers were looking for.
TE Antonio Gates' 13-yard touchdown reception with 7:15 remaining gave San Diego a 21-20 lead. After forcing a Bengals' three and out, FB Mike Tolbert busted loose for a 63-yard touchdown reception down the seam to make the score 28-20.
Following QB Carson Palmer's interception thrown to FS Eric Weddle on a desperation third down heave, the Chargers drove down the field to kick a 55-yard Nate Kaeding field goal to put the game away. Palmer finished the game 27 of 42 for 288 yards.
Cincinnati (0-14) will host Kansas City (5-9) next week in their home finale. The Chiefs will be without starting QB Matt Cassel (66 overall), who has missed the last 8 weeks of action due to a broken collar bone suffered in the team's week six loss to Washington. QB Tyler Thigpen (66 overall) has since taken over for Cassel and will start against the Bengals.
