    Woody Scared Again!

Victor Martinez congratulates Kerry Wood on his 39th save of the year.

AP - Cleveland, OH - The Twins and Indians continue to play competitive baseball. Some looked at this match up and seen an easy series for the Indians. So far the Tribe have had to claw for every run they've gotten this series. And also had to put up with the scary thought that maybe, just maybe. Kerry Wood is not the most dominate closer in baseball this season? Wood delivered to his doubters.

"I blew a save the last game, but picked up a win". Said Wood. "Your telling me that I failed with winning? Yeah I didn't get the save but thanks to Mark we still won the ball game. I've blown two saves this season, just two. I've had two losses and the rest of the time I've been perfect. I slipped up once and the media jumped me? That doesn't make sense. "

Wood is right, so far this season he's been a leading candidate for Rolaids "Reliever of the Year" award. His 39 saves on the season can give light on that subject. It was hard going for Kerry Wood early on as the season started 3-7 for the Tribe. Since then the Indians have been considered the best team and baseball, and when your responsible for keeping your team on top 39 times, don't you deserve a little more respect?

"I'm not going to sweat it." continued Wood. "I'm back on track, again. We won, again. Nothing more needs to be said other than 'bring on the post-season' we're ready, we're amped up for the final two months that we've got coming up. We're excited, so should everyone else be."

        Back, to Back, to Back!

Ryan Garko watches his homer fly out of the park.

AP - Cleveland, OH - Just like the series sweep, the Indians picked up back to back to back home runs. It was a spectacle to see as the Indians 5,6 and 7 batters went yard. One right after another. First Nick Johnson blasted a three run shot to left center. Next? Ryan Garko sent on to center field. Then, Josh Willingham covered the left field by hitting his homer onto the home run porch.

"It was a sight to see, that's for sure." Commented teammate Grady Sizemore. "We were down 1-0 coming into the bottom of the first and these three all hit homers and we're up 5-1. That carried us through the rest of the game." The Indians did pick up an insurance run in the seventh and Kerry Wood appeared for the third time in the series, this time picking up another save, his fortieth of the year.

The Tribe continue to dominate the AL Central, they've won six straight against the AL Central, both sweeping the Tigers and the Twins at home. They travel to Chicago for their next three before returning home to Cleveland to host the Texas Rangers. The White Sox have been battling the Tigers for second place in the division and are looking to end the Indians winning streak and continue their climb back to the top of the divison. It would be quiet the turn around for Chicago who has struggled a lot during late July and early August.

          Key Bank's "Keys to Succes"

1.) Good Pitching - Anytime the Tribe have lost to the White Sox it's been behind terrible pitching outings. If they can get their starters to the sixth, even seventh inning it would a great outcome for the Tribe in this series.

2.) Continue to Lead - The Indians are not in danger of losing their lead, since beating the White Sox before the All Star break the Indians have been threatend once, since then they've started to run away with the division.

3.) Defense - The Indians need to play mistake free baseball. The White Sox could jump on their mistakes and turn this series around quick.

Turned out that it was closer than I thought it would be, still able to get the series sweep.

Wood needs 23 saves to tie with 54 games left. So I would need at least half the games to be decided within 3 runs or less, and winning those games. It will be tough but it's not out of reach yet. I'd like to see it happen, Wood was one of my favorite pitchers in baseball especially when he was with Chicago. I just like his fastball, none like it.

Nice sweep of the Twins! Looks like you're closing in on the division, and with the way you're playing right now, I doubt anyone catches you. Keep it up against Chicago.

Still awhile to go, I could get surprised. I lost a bunch of games there at the end of July, hopefully I can maintain this lead.

                              Sox Rally!

Pierzynkski's two run homer got the White Sox in it.

AP - Chicago, IL - The White Sox were able to put the first L on the Tribe in the month of August. A 5-3 win in Chicago was the result of their game one match-up. The Tribe led early off a two run shot from Grady Sizemore in the third.

A.J. Pierzynski got the White Sox back in it in the bottom of the fifth with a two run shot of his own to pull the game tied. In the seventh on a passed ball Ryan Garko was able to get a triple and later scored. The Indians took the 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth when the White Sox answered back. After a triple and a squeeze play the White Sox tied it at three. Then a two run shot from Fields put the game out of reach for the Indians.

Bobby Jenks came on to close out the game and seal the victory for the White Sox with his twenty-seventh save of the season. Indians' pitcher Joe Smith was given the loss pulling his season record to 3-4. The Tribe have struggled on the road versus the White Sox and will look to get back into the swing of things with Zach Jackson appearing on the mound for them in game 2.
