I'm stunned at the Cardinals inability to beat bad teams. Wainwright loses to the Pirates & Nats in the same week. If he wins Cy Young, that's a joke.

Would it shock anyone if the Cards sweep the Reds again this weekend, and still miss the playoffs?

Or if the Reds sweep the Cardinals and open up a huge lead in the NLC?

I know the Cards are banking on beating the Reds head to head, but has anyone told them they only have 3 more games vs the Reds this year :D

Votto 3 ribbies, Chapman dominant, hitting 103, and looking like a future superstar, two tremendous defensive plays to end the game, and the whining bitches lost AGAIN.

Does it get any better than this?

Can't even begin to fathom a 7 game lead on September 1st.

Even if the Reds lose their last game against the Brewers, and the Cardinals beat Houston tomorrow. Then the Cardinals SWEEP the Reds again, which I dont see happening. The Reds would still have a 3 game lead.

LaRussa keeps setting up his rotation so Garcia/Wainwright/Carpenter face Cincy each time, but then he ends up with Suppan/Lohse/Westbrook/insert bum here facing the bad teams, leveling the playing field.

Dusty does some wierd shit, but I prefer his method of letting the rotation fall however it falls.

In fact, it's hard to rip the toothpick very much at all this year. He's pulling all the right strings. For example, Leake won his last start, but Dusty yanked him from the rotation anyway. I was like, WTF, but then Leake totally shit the bed out of the pen, so Dusty made the move at just the right time. Also, Dusty never panicked when Masset & Coco were struggling. It's paid off, both have been unhittable lately.

The only thing I don't like, is he double switches way too much. Late in games, when the pitcher isnt going to go more than one inning, all the double switch does is play your hand, and essentially reveals your pinch hitter, allowing the opposing manager to set up his bullpen. I hate when Dusty does that. It'll be the 8th inning, he'll bring in Rhodes & Bruce, when Rhodes has no shot of pitching the 9th, so all that does is allow the other manager to get a lefty up in the pen. Makes no sense.

Man, what a collapse. I don't even want to read back through this thread to see how stupid I sounded...lol.

Can't really explain this Cardinals team. Top three in ERA, top three in batting average (both improvements vs. last year) and this team just can't put it together. I was pretty mutual on the Ludwick/Westbrook trade, but it looks like that was the move that took the wind out of the Cardinals' sails.

Anyway. If the Cardinals aren't able to sneak into the wildcard, I'll be rooting for the Reds (minus Cueto!) in the playoffs since they are basically the Cardinals-lite.

                              8 game lead. Unreal
