But seriously, he's a FA to be, and the Reds are frantically looking for a leadoff hitter. The only spot open in the lineup is LF, so if they find a guy to play LF who can also lead off, Gomes, Heisey, or Fred Lewis would have to go. Heisey isn't going anywhere uless it's in a package for a really good player, and Lewis has little value, so I guess it would have to be Gomes, who has definitely dropped to third in the three way LF clusterfuck the Reds have going.

I'd hate to see him go, because for his assortment of shortcomings he plays his ass off and is a clubhouse favorite.

        Tigers get: Wilson Betemit

Royals get: LHP Antonio Cruz, C Julio Rodriguez

Both prospects are A-ball guys who are not highly regarded.

The Phillies and Royals have discussed a deal that would send Melky Cabrera to Philadelphia, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The sides have exchanged names, but they aren't close to completing a trade.

That is because Cabrera is eligible for arbitration next season, so the Royals don't have their backs up against the wall to move him. They can control him until next season.

As a result of this, Brandon Inge has been designated for assignment. He is expected to accept his demotion to AAA.

Inge was a favorite a few years ago, guess he ain't hitting worth a shit.

Also Izzy pitched two innings tonight, struck out 3 (including Holiday/Berkman back to back), was throwing 91-92...

just saying to those teams needing a good reliever...

At least 12 teams have inquired on Adams, according to Passan. Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com hears that the Padres are asking for two top 100 prospects for Adams

So I take it the Mets are trying to showcase Izzy to trade him and then make Parnell the closer?

                      I'm desperate for a closer.

For the time being, it's closer by committee (Beato will be the 9th inning guy tomorrow). They have been/are shopping Izzy though.

If the Braves are indeed close to completing a trade, it isn’t for Carlos Beltran, Rosenthal writes. Hunter Pence is not Atlanta’s slugger of choice, though the Braves have expressed interest in him, B.J. Upton, Ryan Ludwick, Jonny Gomes and others.

The Braves are reluctant to overpay for a rental player and they’re uncomfortable with the Astros’ asking price for Pence. The Braves would prefer not to send Jason Heyward to the minors, though the sophomore slugger’s struggles have compounded Atlanta’s need for a bat.

Ugh, why did you have to get hurt GoGo? All of a sudden the Brewers are gung ho on trading for Beltran. Unless he can play 3B I'll pass.

Braun-Morgan-Hart is just fine. I'll miss Gomez platooning with Morgan in center, but a platoon mate is still a smaller need then SS and 3B. Beltran's ability to play center at this point is questionable. So would he be replacing Corey Hart? Hart's a bum but he's worth more to the team then Beltran long term.

The Brewers will acquire Beltran if they can scrape together a package for him, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney. Olney, who repeats that the Mets are still insisting on a high-end prospect for Beltran, likens the Brewers' pursuit to "searching for nickels under couch cushions."

There are 8 scouts watching Beltran today.

This always amuses me. What exactly are they scouting? The guy has been around forever. We all know he's playing well. He hit a HR two days ago. What could the posssibly be writing down on those notpads?

                                "Yup, its still Carlos Beltran."
