shocked by this, thought he was sure to be a Jayhawk...Originally posted by Nick MangoldWes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate.Comment

You got one!
RMU 76, Wheeling Jesuit 70
The 2011-12 Colonials looked very sloppy in their first exhibition but managed to come out with a win. Red-shirt junior Russell Johnson and red-shirt sophomore Coron Williams did the majority of the scoring, while true freshman Lucky Jones impressed me with his defense. Fellow freshmen Darren Washington and Keith Armstrong did nothing to make me believe we have some depth behind starters Lijah Thompson and Lawrence Bridges.
First official game is November 11th at home against Rider.

THREE GAMES TONIGHT!
-I watched the entire St. John's/William & Mary matchup. SJU only has one scholarship player back from last year's team. Steve Lavin recruited 6 top 100 players, but only 3 are academically eligible. The young players stuggled in the first half, against a William & Mary team that can be a pain in the neck with their methodical offense and 2-1-2 zone D. SJU trailed by 7 at the half, but settled down in the second half and made it a rout. It helped that W&M couldn't throw it into the ocean after a hot first half from beyond the arc. St John's only plays 6 or 7 players, and they have no size. I think they will have games where they look awful (like the first half tonight), and games where they blow people out of the building (like the second half tonight). This looks like it will be one of those Jekyl & Hyde teams.
-I only saw the second half of Arizona/Valpo, but rumors of the Arizona demise look to be exaggerated. Coach Miller admittedly has rotation issues to figure out on a team that lost its two best players and 70% of it's scoring from last year, but they have athletes.
-Mississippi St won its opener over Eastern Kentucky. I wish this was on TV, because Dee Bost is a player I like a lot this year, and he led the way with 23 points.Comment

FOUR GAMES TONIGHT
-I will be at the Texas A&M home opener against Liberty. To me, TAMU's biggest problem from last year's team remains - 8 or 9 good players, with no great player. Who takes the last shot? Last year, it was senior BJ Holmes. He's obviously gone. Plus, the coaching situation is out of sorts. New coach Billy Kennedy is out, dealing with early stage Partkinson's.
-St. John's faces Lehigh. After dismantling a tricky team like William & Mary, SJU should cruise here.
-Everyone thought Arizona would stink this year after losing arguably the best player in the country and dropping exhibitions to D3 schools. They handled an always tough Valpo team with no issues, and tonight they get Duquesne. Arizona, to me, is an interesting team to watch develop as they look for a top scorer and try to figure out a rotation.
-Miss St faces Akron. This is on ESPNU, and I would suggest checking it out for a few minutes to at least take a look at Dee Bost.Comment
