What a horrible season - one of the worst in Giants history. They had destiny in their hands and choked it away.Comment

Definitely a frustrating year because we could all tell that this was a talented team. Unfortunately they kept shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers and poor play.
Keeping Coughlin at least one more year is the right move. I would seriously consider a change at offensive coordinator. I don't like Gilbride's playcalling and I feel like he puts the ball in Eli's hands way to often. The receivers need to stay healthy next year especially steve smith.
All the turnovers on offense overshadowed how good the giants were at takeaways this season. That needs to carry over into next year. We need a linebacker and another cornerback, preferably someone with speed that can cover the slot. Aaron Ross fell off the face of the earth this season and Thomas is good but is a step too slow to cover some of the faster receivers.
As for special teams, we need to find someone that can provide a spark on KR/PR. At least someone whose a threat to get the ball out to the 40 once and a while. Hopefully Matt Dodge finds some consistancy during the offseason (more work with Feagles maybe) or the Giants bring someone in who can.Comment

As far as players go...my off-season requests:
-OL depth: Shawn Andrews may not play again with his injuries and who knows how Rich Seubert (one of our 2010 MVPs) recovers from the leg injury. Plus who knows what kind of shape O'Hara will be in with an off-season to heal up. Beatty and Koets got some nice playing time this year so hopefully they can provide some depth. Looking at Diehl/Snee/McKenzie as the only sure guys.
-Playmaking LB: Just like they did with the Antrell Rolle signing, they need someone to come in @ linebacker and make plays. We've had leaders (Pierce) but no real playmakers in forever. Sintim is a fine 4th LB, but we need someone to light people up and be a force in coverage.
-Another wideout. Assuming they resign Steve Smith and he makes a full recovery, we obviously need depth. Ramses Barden has shown nothing. Hagan is a nice possession receiver who knows the system but we need more. Smith/Nicks/Manningham is as good a 3-deep set as there is...but depth is key.
-What's with the RBs? This is a big situation to keep an eye on. What happens with Jacobs? He has a big contract so I imagine it will be difficult to unload him if either side wants to. Coughlin and whomever has to work with Bradshaw's fumbling issues, but it's different than Tiki.
-Punishing fullback. Hedgecock's time in blue is over. Bear Pascoe filled in nicely but he's not quite the masher up front I'd like.
-DBs....interesting to see whether they bring back Deon Grant. They had a nice 3-safety system all season long so if they don't, they'll need to replace him. Another solid corner would be nice.
-Returners....DESPERATELY. If Hixon can come back, I wonder how serious the injury will impact him going forward. If not, they need to address it via FA or the draft. We see all over the league how effective returnmen can open up games (DJax, Hester, Brad Smith, McCluster, Ford to name a few).

- Cleveland & Carolina have requested permission to interview Fewell for their head coaching gigs.
- Some good news (at this point) from Hixon:
Hixon had some good news for Giants fans on Monday when he showed up at the practice facility for the time in month. He says that not only will he be back at 100% next season, but he will be more effective than he was before he went down while returning a punt at the New Meadowlands in a June practice.
“To be honest with you, I think I’ll be better,” said Hixon, who spent plenty of time studying game tape during the season. “On the outside looking in, you get a different perspective.”
Hixon, who will be a free-agent at the end of the NFL calendar year, spent the season rehabbing his injury and working out twice a day in Columbus. He is running at full speed and cutting on his knee. The lone hurdle left, according to Hixon, is to gain his endurance back.
Hixon, 26, didn't seem overly concerned that he didn't have a contract going into the offseason with the threat of a lcockout looming.
“I’m just kind of letting everything work itself out but I think we’ll be here, working out in March,” he said.
Hixon also spoke recently with former Giant Amani Toomer, who returned to the playing field after suffering a season-ending ACL injury in 2006.
“He came back and had a very successful career, so I plan to do the same thing,” he said.
